Film4 boss Ollie Madden joins Netflix as British film director

For the shocking moves of the UK industry, Netflix poached Film4 and Channel 4 drama director Ollie Madden as the new director of its British films.

Madden, who oversees slate on Film4, includes features such as “poor things,” “area of ​​interest” and “favorites”, will join the content team overseen by Anne Mensah at Netflix’s London office. He will both lead streaming British film Slate and act as the main liaison for Dan Lin Slate films, with IP, talent and production located in the UK, and he will also develop a select portfolio led by filmmakers.

Madden will leave Film4 and start his new position in October.

A longtime Film4 executive joined the BBC Channel 4 production division in 2017 and was promoted to director in 2022 when Daniel Battsek was promoted to chairman and held a leadership position last year after Battsek announced his departure. In 2024, he also won a showdown position against Dim4 and Channel 4 dramas.

Following Madden's exit, Farhana Bhula is the head of Film4's creative and deputy director and will serve as Film4 interim director from July 1. Meanwhile, drama commissioned editor Gwawr Lloyd will report to Ian Katz to the director of drama starting July 1 and will join his Hods starting July 1. Whether Madden's replacement will include Film4 and drama and drama characters.
