In order to win your fantasy women’s basketball league, you need a little luck.
But luck is where you prepare for opportunities. So if you want a chance to win, you need to make sure you are ready. Especially before you sit down to draft the team.
The first step in preparing a draft is to decide what you want the team to look like. The way talent looks in different parts of the draft will allow you to gain competition from the tips for the opening ceremony.
The best way to measure a team that might look like is to have a mock draft (or two) in a real draft to feel what players should be. Will the sleeper picks be there, or will everyone already know them, so they are earlier than expected? Often, there are indeed great players who are lower than you expected, probably later than you think. Before entering the draft, it is very valuable to maximize squads.
This article emphasizes that players consider drafting in different rounds of the draft. Your draft slot has a huge impact in early rounds due to the value of the players available. Using Average Draft Positioning Data (ADP) to determine the possibilities of availability, here are some insights into the types of value that may be available throughout the draft.
Note: All listed ADPs are May. 7.
In six team leagues, the first round is a series of choices based on the position you choose. At the top, the choice is Wilson (ADP 1.6) vs. Caitlyn Clarke (ADP 1.9), and I'll choose Wilson.
Next comes Breanna Stewart (ADP 4.0) and Collier (ADP 4.3). This is a difficult choice. Although Stewart is a former MVP, earning more fantasy points on average over the past few seasons, she also entered a year of arthroscopic knee surgery. Collier was ready to build his own defensive player of the year and runner-up last season and has the potential to get better this year.
The end of the round pit Ogunbowale (ADP 5.7) with Sabrina Ionescu (ADP 6.0). Ogunbowale nodded to her 2024 season’s more productive power. She averaged 39.7 fp/g vs. Ionescu's 34.4 fp/g, and her high ceiling is the focus of the Dallas Wings' offense, and Ionescu is one of the three stars of the New York Statue of Liberty.
In the first half of the second round, goal Rees (ADP 9.6). She is the most dominant rebounder in WNBA history among the rookie (13.1 RPG), and her rebounder destiny has improved as the season progresses. In the last 21 games of last season, she averaged 14.5 points and 14.7 RPG, and in an unparalleled offseason, the Classic was named Defensive Player of the Year. Reese seems to be preparing to participate in a monster sophomore sport.
Mei Zi (ADP 13.2) offered good value in the second half of the second round. The usage of plum blossoms should be through the roof of the Los Angeles Spark Squad, with the desperate need for peripheral crime creators. She has a great opportunity to create new career highs for scoring (current career-high 20.2 points), assists (5.1 APG) and 3 points (3.1 3pg).
Diggins (ADP 17.6) joined the Seattle Storm in 2024 and shared the backcourt with another senior usage guard, Jewell Loyd. As a result, Diggins' average score since 2016 (15.1 points). She seems ready to go back to previous works, such as her 19.7 points scored last season (2022) while maintaining her career-best 6.4 APG last season.
Last season, Sabri (ADP 20.6) averaged 35.5 fp/g, the sixth best in the league. The only reason she is not among the most important producers in the league is that a shoulder injury has limited her participation in only 15 games. Sabally played only over 17 games in her five seasons of career, but played 38 games in 2023. If she stays healthy this season, Sabali has the potential to generate first-round value in the fourth-round fantasy draft.
Jackson (ADP 33.3) had an impressive rookie season, especially in the second half she averaged 16.4 points and 4.1 RPG in the last 20 games.
Charles (ADP 35.4) is a former MVP and when she gets a few minutes she remains one of the most productive players in the league. The Charles program will begin for a Connecticut team in the rebuilding season and will have both potential every night as long as she continues to take on the role.
Cardoso (ADP 37.5) is another sophomore ready to make a leap. After the start of the failed rookie season, Cardoso performed well in 12 games from mid-August to mid-September, with an average of 13.0 points, 8.8 rpg, 2.8 APG and 1.9 bpg.
Brink (ADP 38.9) is another member of the 2024 elite rookie class, who started strong this season but the ACL suffered a torn to end early in her season. Brink is expected to return in June, and when healthy, she is a nightly double threat that may lead the league with obstacles.
Grey (ADP 41.3) is probably the best value in the current ADP draft. Last season, her game came down because she had a low leg injury, but she was healthy again this offseason as she led Rose BC to the first unparalleled championship to become the final MVP. Gray has built a new career-best score in 2023 with scoring, assists, rebounds and 3-pointers, and I hope she bounces back to the top 20 players this season.
