Cleveland-Jarren Duran has received a lot of support from his Boston Red Sox and others since he revealed in a Netflix documentary that he attempted suicide three years ago.
However, Duran said Sunday that fans in the front row near the Cleveland Red Sox canoe said "inappropriate" to him as the All-Star beat Field to win 13-3 in the seventh inning.
Duran kept the canoe's highest steps and stared at the fan during innings. In the seventh inning, Red Sox teammates and coaches kept Duran away from the area as referees and progressive field security personnel gathered to deal with the situation.
Fans tried to run up the aisle but were caught safely and kicked out of the stadium.
"The fans just said something inappropriate. I'm glad to handle it safely, the referees knew it, and they took care of it for me."
After the game, The Guardian issued a statement apologizing to the Red Sox and Duran. The team said it has identified fans and is working with Major League Baseball for the next step.
Duran said it was his first time being ridiculed by fans for his attempted suicide and mental health struggles since the release of the Netflix series "The Clubhouse: A Year with Red Sox" on April 8.
He said: "When you open this way, you open to the enemy, too. But I have a good support staff, teammates, coaches around me. Some fans are supporting me, so it's amazing."
Boston manager Alex Cora is located in another corner of the Red Sox Dugout but appreciates how the incident is handled.
Cora is even Duran's pride in restraint. Duran directed anti-gay slander among a heck-foot fan at Fenway Park last season when fans shouted Duran needed a tennis racket to hit.
"There is a two-way street. That's what I said last year. We made a mistake last year and we learned one from it. We grew up as an individual and a group," Cora said.
Sunday's events undercut Duran's solid game and series. He played 6-6 with RBI and played at least three hits for the second straight game in his career.
Duran scored Boston's first home run in 16 years in Saturday's Doubleheader Nightcap.
Duran scored 15 points with 15 shots when Boston scored two of three games in the weekend series. His six defeats to the left in the series were left-handed in Duran's match against Southpaws.
Duran said: “I got some good swings on left-handed lately and just hit the guys. I tried to stay in my process and that was good for me.
