Fanny Ardant, Joanna Kulig

Minerva Pictures has already been on the way to handle international sales of the psychological drama "Isela" starring French film icon Fanny Ardant and Polish actor Joanna Kulig.

The film is currently in post-production. Italian actor Marco Rossetti is known for his role in the popular medical drama Nelle Tue Mani, and he also performed with Kulig and Ardant.

"Isela" is located on a remote Italian island, following a dangerous relationship between two women. The story focuses on the focus of Joanna, who finds herself trapped in a secluded island with her disabled and older husband, Oskar. Her interaction with his caretaker Ada evolved into a nervous mental cat and mouse game with potentially fatal consequences.

The film marks the debut of the director of Italian-German filmmaker Nora Jaenicke, who previously won praise for her short films. Jaenicke also wrote the script, the founder and artistic director of the Elba Film Festival, and held a Nostos script development workshop in Tuscany.

“I want to explore the themes that the film isn’t exploring enough in the film: the vulnerability of the human mind under pressure, the subtle lines between care and control, and how violence can easily penetrate the lives of women in the family realm,” Jaenicke said.

Monica Ciarli of Minerva Pictures Group added: "When I first watched this movie with Vincenzo Mosca of TVCO, we were shocked by the amazing performances of the amazing actress and the power of such a compelling female-driven story. Of course, we were very excited to promote and sell the movie."

The project was produced by Manish Mundra, India type10 producers watched in 2017 through his company Drishyam Films, as well as co-producer Ariens Damsi, co-producer Eliofilm and Jaenicke's Nostos films.

“Minerva Pictures is an ideal partner for Isela,” Mundra said. “Their expertise and passion for unique storytelling will help bring the film to audiences around the world and we are excited to work with them to ensure Isela is in the right market.”

Drishyam Films is known for producing highly acclaimed independent films, including the Cannes Film Festivals "Masaan", "Newton", "Ankhon Dekhi" and "Dhanak".
