Famine in Gaza, 500,000 faces of hunger: Analysis | Israel-Palestine conflict news

The report said that if the Israeli lockdown persists, all 2.1 million people in the Gaza Strip are at risk.

Global Hunger Monitor warns that Israel's lockdown threatens the entire population of the Gaza Strip and faces hunger of 500,000.

A report from the Integrated Food Security Stage Classification (IPC) initiative released on Monday said the Gaza Strip “still face the dangerous risk of famine”, with 2.1 million of its vast majority at serious risk for one and a half years of its devastating war.

"The essential goods for people's survival will either be exhausted or expected to be exhausted in the coming weeks," the report said.

"The population as a whole faces high levels of acute food insecurity, with 500,000 people (one in five) facing hunger," it said. It added that about 93% of the population of Gaza's population suffer from acute food shortages.

Conditions have deteriorated significantly since the IPC report released in October, with a higher proportion of the population facing a more severe level of food insecurity.

If the Israeli siege persists, the entire population is expected to face a “crisis” or an acute level of food insecurity. One in five is believed to face hunger between May and September.

Authorities on the bombing territory said last week that at least 57 people starved to death due to Israel's blockade.

The analysis added that widespread acute malnutrition is expected, especially in most destroyed northern Gaza and in Rafa destroyed.

After 19 months of conflict, massive displacement and humanitarian aid blockade, the Gaza Strip (about 2.1 million people) faces the key risks of famine, among the key risks to famine.

The report said the ongoing lockdown “could lead to further large-scale displacement within and across states.”

“The vast majority of people in the Gaza Strip have no access to food, water, shelter and medicine. This will exacerbate civil unrest and competition, which remains scarce, further eroding any limited community response and support mechanisms.”

Food prices in Gaza are too high. The IPC report noted that wheat flour prices have risen 3,000% since February, rising in Deir El-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in southern China.

The analysis calls for “emergency operations” to end hostilities, allow unhindered humanitarian access, and protect civilians and aid workers killed by Israeli troops in record numbers.

According to the latest data from the Gaza Ministry of Health on Monday, Israeli forces have killed at least 52,862 Palestinians and injured 119,648 people since the Israeli attack held by Hamas on October 7, 2023, and killed 1,139 people in the attack on southern Israel, killing 200 people, causing more than 200 people to be brought into Captive Captive Captive Captive Captive.
