Today, as we come together for the 52nd annual March for Life, the world's largest annual demonstration for human rights, we mark a moment of new beginnings. Earlier this week, our country welcomed a new presidential administration, closer to home, and our organization began a new season of leadership.

There is no doubt that it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this incredible organization and the millions of marchers collectively over the past 12 years, but I am delighted to now hand over that responsibility to Jennie Bradley Lichter, who I believe is the I want women leading the March for Life and the pro-life community next season.

In the face of such exciting change, it's good to recall the things that remain the same; the things that draw countless people to Washington, D.C., year after year, and make the March for Life great.

I am referring to the fundamental values that underpin our efforts, remembering that all human life, born or unborn, has inherent dignity and value and deserves protection and support within families, communities and the law. Unborn children are the poorest of the poor, the most vulnerable, and they deserve every possible protection from us. I can't think of a more worthy cause.

I want an abortion. But then I made a friend who saved my baby

This year’s theme, “Life: Why We March,” underscores our desire to refocus on these compelling, common-sense, and fundamental foundations of life. These include the fact that every life has inherent dignity and that science shows that life begins at the moment of conception or fertilization. At its core, the pro-life movement is about providing the resources and support pregnant women and families need, and ultimately, we need to continue to use the power of witnessing and storytelling to change hearts and minds.

Science clearly shows that life begins at the moment of conception/fertilization. From that moment on, the new human life in the womb has its own unique genetic DNA, different from that of its parents. At just 6 weeks, expectant parents can see and hear their child's heartbeat, and by 12 weeks all other organs have formed.

Republicans could win on abortion if pro-lifers tell their stories

These are just a few of the many moments of pregnancy and development that bear witness to the reality that every life is unrepeatable, intrinsically valuable, and worthy of our love and protection.

Sadly, we live in a culture that sends confusing messages to women in this regard and promotes the false notion that abortion is necessary for prosperity and success. Yet the sad reality is that 60% of women who have abortions would prefer to have a child if they believed they had the emotional or financial support they needed.

Women need to know that they are strong, capable, and that the pro-life community will love and support them long after their child is born. That's why there are approximately 3,400 community maternity homes and pregnancy resource centers across the United States to help women in need who want to keep their babies.

Denying the inherent value and dignity of the unborn child through selective abortion traumatizes countless women, families, and physicians, and of course, robs us of hundreds of thousands of innocent and precious children every year. Speakers speaking at this year’s March for Life, from a botched abortion survivor to a former abortionist, come to share their testimonies, shining a light on the tragedy of abortion while serving as beacons of hope for our future.

Sometimes we forget that abortion affects people for the rest of their lives. But by boldly sharing our stories, we can remind the women and families around us that their lives, and the lives of their children, are worthy of love and protection. Our voices are powerful, our presence is powerful.

We march for the unborn children in the womb, all of whom are worthy of love and life. But pro-life is about more than just protecting those still in the womb; we stand with every struggling mother and family to support them as they welcome new life. We also march for former abortionists, abortion survivors, and women who have suffered the physical and mental pain of abortion.

Our message is simple, direct and clear: every human life deserves our respect and protection from the moment of conception, and we are here to support them every step of the way. The love and support shown by the anti-abortion community must be a guiding light in the darkness.

So, as always, the world continues to change, but March for Life's goals remain firm and true. We will continue to affirm the beautiful truth that the unborn child is an equal member of the human family, provide resources and support to women and families in need, and allow our witnesses to speak out about the pricelessness of every human life and the tragic harm of abortion Holding us all. That's why we march.
