Evan Spiliotopoulos's ''Curse Artifact Museum

Mediapro Studio US & Canada in Los Angeles has secured a film adaptation of the Cursed Artifacts Museum, an upcoming novel by Evan Spiliotopoulos, author of the 2017 Disney blockbuster "Beauty and The Beast."

Mediapro Studio describes the "Cursed Artifact Museum" as a dynamic suspense, adventure and supernatural twists and turns, starting with a well-known entrepreneur who completed his collection of cursed artifacts. He then took his life in a shocking way.

His family violently said he wasted all his money but still hoped to make money through this creepy museum, bringing together leading experts to verify the authenticity of these items. All hell broke literally.

In what Mediapro Studio calls a “highly competitive deal,” the novel’s rights were obtained in two books deals with Emily Bestler Books, a brand of Simon & Schuster. Spiliotopoulos (its script honors also include Russell Crowe starrer "The Pope's Exorcist", "The Hunter: The Winter War" and 2019's "The Angel of Charlie" - with the script.

"Ensure the film rights of this extraordinary novel proves the immense talent behind it and our strong belief in its potential," said JC Acosta, head of Mediapro Studio US & Canada. "We are delighted to work together on projects that will surely attract audiences, and we are proud to have it as part of the film slate."

Verve, representing Spiliotopoulos, held an auction of scripted movies and book rights, with both entities selling within a few days. "You never know if your strangest thoughts will see the light of the day. I thank the Atria/Emily Bestler books and Mediapro Studio for not only seeing the light, but also going straight to the darkness with me," Evan Spiliotopoulos said.

"This is one of the most original and scariest novels I've ever read," said Emily Bestler.

After its first English slate showed off the highlights on October MIPCOM, Mediapro Studio Us & Canada is quickly gaining reputation in the U.S. market, becoming a bullish player, both a co-production partner and a home to top talent. MIPCOM's Slate announced the project for John Turturro, Melissa Leo, "24" performance host Evan Katz and Oscar champion Juan José Campanella.

In March, Mediapro Studio US & Canada landed on the co-producer of Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a MMA fighter produced by Keanu Reeves and Fisher Stevens. This month, Mediapro Studio US & Canada and BBC films announced the "End of It", starring Rebecca Hall, Gael García Bernal, Noomi Rapace and Beanie Feldstein, and launched for the Cannes Film Festival by Bankside Films and WME Independent.
