Three years ago, Evan Neal was the prospect of the New York Giants looking to compete for offensive tackles over the next decade.
Today, he is a man without a position, and after three disappointing years of disappointing age and powerlessness, he may be playing his last season for the Giants.
The Giants have cancelled the idea that the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was their answer on right tackle, which allowed him to transfer him in the Guardian this spring in hopes he will win the roster.
The concept of trading Neil is very real, and when he competes for a spot in the defender rotation, he may heat up if he doesn't fit in his new position.
Gary Davenport from Bleacher report:
There is no doubt who is the most valuable trading asset of the New York Giant. Carter, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux have three high-end Fringe Rolls after putting Penn State's edge Abdul Carter in April. Other teams undoubtedly asked about the availability of the latter.
But unless Giants general manager Joe Schoen gets a "Godfather" offer for Thibodeaux, there is no reason to reach an agreement. not yet.
Schoen drafted Alabama tackle Evan Neal for the seventh time in 2022. But after most of the horror years on tackle, including 22 missed games, New York head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that this year, the team will try Neal at left-back this year.
"He's a big guy. He's long. He's obviously a little taller than what I'm talking about, but he's playing." "He's been in many positions since he's served at the University of Alabama. He's been working hard last month and looking forward to bringing him there."
Maybe Neil will pull a Mekhi Becton and Blossom after kicking inside. But if he doesn't, Big Blue should want to flip the contract year's border yarder into a team that believes it can save Neal's career.
Neil is not easy to trade before or after June 1 and cut him will not bring a salary to the Giants. If they can deal with him, they will save him $4 million in his $7.8 million hat. But it will be a long-term vision.
Neil was once seen as a “can’t miss” prospect, and he missed someone serious. It happened. It would be unreasonable to have another team think they could redeem his tackle for this league, as he has been cruel in preventing the speed stormtroopers’ pass protection.
This was the main feature of the NFL offensive tackle when we last checked.
