Sehiri's last film, The Fig Trees, aired in two weeks in the 2022 Cannes director and was selected to represent Tunisia at the 2023 Academy Awards.

"The Promised Sky" followed Pastor Iverian and former journalist Marie for 10 years in Tunisia. Her home becomes a refuge for Naney, a young mother seeking a bright future, and Jolie is a strong student who holds hope for their family. The arrival of a little orphan girl challenges their sense of unity in a tense social atmosphere, revealing their vulnerability and strength.

The script was written by Sehiri, Anna Ciennik and Malika Cécile Louati.

Commenting on the relationship between Tunisians and immigrants from other parts of Africa, Sehiri said: "As a Tunisian woman, I am very frustrated because we cannot respect immigrants of dignity, even if we come from a country with such a wide range of diaspora. We act like we are all on the same continent, if not all of us, then we are all African, African.

Tensions in Tunisia over immigration have recently increased. Sehiri commented: "At first, my intention was not to record what was going on in Tunisia, but over time, the film began to reflect the political situation in the country. The reality caught up with the story we were writing.

“With the massive arrests and raids around Tunisia, we began to ask ourselves: How do we breathe these tensions into our stories without turning the characters into obsolete, simplified stereotypes? We try to get a little bit about what’s going on to avoid any unnecessary violence on the screen. We want to see the lives of these women.
