Emmy Award-winning actor Valerie Mahaffey was famous in the North on Friday, desperate housewife and young Sheldon. She is 71 years old.
"I lost my love for my life, and America lost one of the cutest actresses. She will be missed," her husband, actor Joseph Kell, said in a statement to the variety show.
Kyle said she died in Los Angeles on May 30 after fighting cancer.
Mahaffey's career spans nearly 50 years and is known for playing quirky characters, including her winning role in 1992 for the supporting actress Emmy: as Hypochondric Eve Eve who lives in a fictional Alaska town aired from 1990 to 1995.
Mahaffey recently received an independent Spirit Award nomination for his role as optimistic Mrs. Renard in Azazel Jacobs' 2020 Dark Comedy France Export.
Michelle Pfeiffer played a game against Mahaffey in French Export, and posted on social media: "One of our smartest stars was stolen by us yesterday. Such a brilliant talent and humanity."
She co-starred in the Big Sky in David E Kelley’s ensemble detective TV series, which aired on ABC from 2020 to 2021.
Mahaffey was born in Indonesia on June 16, 1953, where she grew up until she graduated from Texas high school and then continued to study at the University of Texas. She began her acting career on the New York City stage, appearing in six Broadway games in memories directed by Raul Julia and Harold Prince, opposite Dracula.
She also played Ashley Bennett in the soap opera Doctor, for which she was nominated for the daytime Emmy Award.
She won two OBIE awards for her drama work on the conversation heads of Top Girls and Alan Bennett.
Mahaffey's versatility has kept her in demand for guest roles, and she has accumulated dozens of series honors including Seinfeld, Wings, ER, Glee, Glee, Gray's Anatomy and Mindy Project. She played Kyle Maclachlan's manipulative Alma Hodge on the desperate housewife between 2006 and 2007, and reenacted it on Young Sheldon's teacher Victoria Macelroy from 2017 to 2020.
Survivors include her husband and daughter Alice.
Mahaffey's North exposure co-star Rob Morrow posted on social media about Mahaffey's "Fresh Air, Joy and Laugh" by Eve in the series. "We all admire her," he said.
