Elizabeth Holmes’ romantic partner – the father of her children – reportedly raised millions to set up a new blood test company that was very similar to the new one that landed the founder of Theranos in federal prison.
The fundraising campaign comes as the New York Times marketed his new company Haemanthus to potential investors, while Billy Evans is the heir to a hotel fortune, according to the New York Times. Evans’ promotion: a health testing company that can be diagnosed from users’ blood, urine, and saliva.
Haemanthus' pitch has some important similarities with the courts made by Holmes-Helmed Theranos.
Holmes launched Theranos in 2003 after health-tested technology startups gained substantial investment from many millionaires. She claims her company has developed technology to test small amounts of blood quickly and accurately to provide a diagnosis.
Meanwhile, in a January patent, Haemanthus said its technology could be used to test sweat, urine, saliva and a small amount of blood for diagnosis. The company led by Evans, Evans has two children formed with Holmes and was founded in February 2024 - suggesting it will begin testing animals before it can be tested on humans.
Theranos’ claims about its technology helped it evaluate the balloon, reaching a $9 billion peak in 2014. But the Wall Street Journal bombshell investigation shows that Theranos's claims are largely wrong. The test is illegal and provides wrong results.
When the company dissolved in 2018, the scandal reached its peak. Later that year, Holmes and the company's president were charged with fraud. Holmes was sentenced to 11 years in prison for deceiving investors in 2022.
Haemanthus' marketing materials are under review by The New York Times that the company's technology will use lasers to scan blood, saliva or urine from pets and "molecular first-level analysis of samples." The technology then takes only a few seconds to detect disease, cancer, or infection.
According to a report by The Times, marketing materials say Heymantus’ long-term goal includes developing a small, wearable version for humans.
According to a report by the Times, several investors have passed the stadium. However, Holmes reportedly suggested that Evans was able to raise nearly $20 million from friends and other investors.
Evans encountered a fraud investigation with Holmes in 2017, which led to her imprisonment. He reportedly lived in Texas with his children, while Sherlock Holmes served in federal prison for about two hours.
