Electronic Arts cancels the "Titanfall" game, listing 300 employees

Mega video game publisher Electronic Arts canceled the upcoming "Titanfall" franchise video games and laid off more than 300 employees.

“As part of our continued focus on long-term strategic priorities, we have made select changes within the organization to more effectively align the team and allocate resources for future growth,” an EA spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday. “Over the whole process, we have been cautious and respecting our people, minimizing impact by helping influence employees explore new opportunities within the company where possible and providing support during the transition.”

A post shared by Respraws on Tuesday showed that about a third of the cuts were conducted by EA-owned developer Respainn, which is developing "Titanfall" and another project, both in "early incubation." The layoffs mainly affect the team working on the games "Apex Legends" and "Star Wars Jedi".

“As we focus on the future, we decided to stay away from two early incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments in “Apex Legends” and “Star Wars Jedi,” the statement said. “These decisions were not easy and we are very grateful to each of the affected teammates – their creativity and contributions have helped rebirth the reality today. We provide meaningful support for those affected, including exploring new opportunities within the EA.”

"Looking forward, our commitment to the first experience of players remains unchanged. Innovation has been at the heart of Respawn identity, and it continues to drive the way we build the future - from evolving live experiences to making new worlds and stories. For the upcoming season, we also invest in the next step in the franchise - exploring bold experiences that push the boundaries of competitive gaming while staying true to our community's competitive spirit, creativity and integrity, we are excited to continue playing in the next chapter of the Star Wars jedi series in order to continue building new stories.
