Newcastle co-manager Eddie Howe's city status has been confirmed by lawmakers.
After the Carabao Cup title in March, the owner of Xipies was nominated, the club's first major trophy in decades.
Councillors now voted for the motion to give him the highest civic honor the city can give.
It has been previously awarded to other major figures in Newcastle football history, including Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn.
After the club beat Liverpool 2-1, council leader Karen Kilgour proposed Howe.
After confirming his identity, she said he would “forever be the hero of the achievements Newcastle United supporters have achieved during the club”.
She added: “That special day at Wembley, there was something they had never seen in 70 years – the success of the domestic trophy.
“For a city where life and breathing exercises, there are soccer clubs with lots of life spinning, seeing black and white shirts lifting trophys in football’s homes, it’s long felt that it will last forever.”
On March 29, thousands of fans lined up on Newcastle’s streets and held an open bus parade in the city centre on March 29.

Despite Everton's home defeat of 1-0, the club continued to qualify for the Champions League next season on the final day of the season.
Kilgour added Howe to the city as “a wonderful ambassador” and called him “enthusiastic and calm, inspiring and courteous.”
The Council said it will work with the club to arrange celebrations and present Hoy to his award.
The identity is ritual, seeing the recipients have scrolls, their names engraved on the sandstone walls of the Banquet Hall in the Civic Center.
This is unlike becoming Hereditary Freeman of Newcastle, members of Newcastle must take a swearing to defend the city and have traditionally had special rights and obligations - including the right to grazing cattle in the town.
This is not the first such award.
In 2019, when he was in Bournemouth's manager, he was granted freedom to the autonomous region for his role in rising from the second league to the Premier League.
The Council's "Supreme Mark of Honor" allowed him to obtain reserved seats in council meetings and church services.
