Drake pushes Tory Lanez to be pardoned after jail attack

Rapper Drake shared a petition asking California governor to pardon Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who was attacked last week.

"Go home soon," Drake wrote in his Instagram story, and was linked to the petition.

Last week, a prisoner in a California prison stabbed Lanez 14 times, in which the attack caused his lungs to collapse. He was taken to the hospital and expected to recover.

Lanez's legal name is Daystar Peterson, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting another musician, Megan Thee Staalillion, in 2020.

Pedro Calderón Michel of the state’s correctional department said the prison attack occurred at 07:20 local time (15:20 GMT).

He said staff members started first aid before Lanez, 32, was taken to a local medical facility for further treatment.

A Lanez Instagram article said he was stabbed, with his torso, head and face and had to be temporarily placed on his respirator. He can breathe on his own now.

"In spite of the pain, he spoke normally, was refreshed and deeply thanked God who he was working on."

Officials told the BBC that prisoners of criminals who had second-degree murder and other violent crimes were sentenced to life imprisonment for suspected attacks. They said he had been placed in "restricted housing" before the investigation.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Casio arrived at the Tehachapi agency in February 2004 and obtained an additional sentence for beating a fellow prisoner in 2008 and possessing a deadly weapon in 2018.

Lannis was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, for leaving the 2020 pool party at the Hollywood Mansion of reality star Kylie Jenner.

The case divides the hip-hop world into the hip-hop world, with rappers (including 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea) appearing to support the conflict, with some demanding courts to leniency over Lanniz's verdict.

Drake's song Circo Loco, which works with 21 Savage, appears to mention the case and suggest Megan is lying.

Megan in turn accuses Drake of joking about beating a woman.

The petition shared by Drake now has about 270,000 signatures calling for Gov Gavin Newsom to award Lanez's "Full Pardon". The Change.org petition created by the Caldwell Institute for Public Safety also points to arguments in the case that both evidence and witness statements are questioned.

Newsom has not commented on the request yet.

In the seven years before his conviction, Lannis had seven top ten albums in the United States. He laughed at the release of a new album released in Peterson.
