A Norwegian court has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for rape and sexual abuse of dozens of women, a case that shocked the Scandinavian country.
Former GP Arne Bye was convicted of 70 counts of rape and sexual assault. Norwegian media reported that he was also convicted of 82 counts of abuse of the status of a doctor.
Almost all crimes were conducted during medical examinations, with the patient being on his patient, who worked as a physician in the town of Frosta, a small town, a small community with less than 3,000 residents, near Trondheim on the west coast of Norway.
Goodbye was also banned from practicing medicine and ordered to pay compensation.

According to reports from Norwegian media, the court considered a long-term prosecution, which included allegations involving women in nearly two decades.
Goodbye pleaded guilty to some crimes and was acquitted on many charges.
Speaking to the court on Friday at Trondheim, Judge Espen Haug said the case was "very serious" and described Bye's actions as "absolutely unacceptable."
"The defendant's actions took place in places and environments where people should feel safe," Judge Hauge said. "His actions undermined public trust in health services and doctors in general."
The 55-year-old defendant stood at his feet and seemed calm and indifferent when he was sentenced for the maximum sentence.
The court was then asked to sit down because it took more than an hour to read the verdict.
Health authorities first reminded police of their goodbye concerns in August 2022, and he was indicted a year later.
Norwegian media reported that goodbye secretly installed a camera in his office. Police found out the scale of his crime after reviewing hundreds of hours of video.
Dozens of women, between the ages of 14 and 67, reportedly came forward from small rural communities. The earliest complaints date back to 2004, most recently 2022.
The center of this case is a method used for physical examination.
Over four months, the court heard details of the involuntary touching and inappropriate pelvic examination conducted by BYE.
These acts constitute rape under Norwegian law, which distinguishes penetrating from impermeable rape.
During these exams, it was also shown that BYE also used non-medical devices such as deodorants, but there was no reason to do so.
Defense attorneys demanded a lower sentence of about 17-18 years because of goodbye to plead guilty to rape of 21 victims.
Prosecutors told public broadcaster NRK that they were satisfied with the judgment and would review the results before any appeals were considered.
Goodbye lawyers also said he will spend some time reading the verdict correctly before considering whether to appeal.
