DOGE caucus' roadmap to reduce government waste emerges after closed-door meeting: 'Big synergy'

Plans to cut government waste took center stage after the Congressional DOGE caucus held its second closed-door meeting on Wednesday.

Caucus leaders divided lawmakers into eight working groups focused on waste reduction in different sectors. The measures will focus on retirement, the social and family safety net, emergency supplemental funding, energy licensing, homeland security, defense and veterans, the workforce and government operations, according to a document reviewed by Fox News Digital.

Co-chairs Aaron Bean, R-Fla., and Pete Sessions, R-Texas, challenged members of the audience to introduce at least one measure related to government efficiency in the 119th Congress. Relevant Acts.

Both told Fox Digital News that this is just one of the coordinated efforts the caucus is planning as it seeks to provide legislation for the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), co-led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy support.

"yes Our goal is that one day we will drop the legislation and one day we will be out there talking to the American people," Sessions told Fox News Digital.

Bean elaborated on the idea, labeling it "DOGE Days."

"We hope to one day be able to draft 20 to 30 bills and all DOGE members will step up and, boom, we're working on those bills," Bean said. "We're going to have great teamwork, great synergy and momentum. "

They asked attendees to fill out a survey, a copy of which was obtained by Fox News Digital, that designated the working group they would like to join.

During the closed session, lawmakers also took turns discussing their own ideas for reducing government waste.

Rep. Jay Obernault, R-Calif., called for amending the Constitution to require Congress to balance the federal budget.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew proposes cutting off child tax credit eligibility for illegal immigrants.

"Right now, we're not careful enough...illegal immigrants get child tax credits, child care tax credits. It's ridiculous. You know, so that's my point, these are things that are easy to do, It's low-hanging fruit," Van Drew told Fox News Digital when asked about his conference comments.

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, who leads DOGE efforts in the Senate and attended Wednesday's House meeting, urged House members to work with their upper chamber counterparts on the bicameral bill.

Lawmakers are enthusiastic about the goals set out by Musk and Ramaswamy's new team. The panel is an advisory group commissioned by President-elect Trump to advise the executive branch on where it can reduce government waste.

The organization operates an email reporting hotline, and Bean and Sessions said it has received more than 15,000 emails.

Bean said he was surprised but pleased with the enthusiasm.

Sessions added, "I got about 200 letters here that were actually typed and some of them were written that said, 'Thank you for doing this. I hope you hear from me. '" This is a recognition of the American people who are also involved. "
