Trump stepped up crackdown on sanctuary cities - Report

Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order on Monday directing the attorney general and the secretary of Homeland Security to determine cities and states that do not comply with federal immigration laws within a month.

Chinese Foreign Ministry says Xi Jinping and Trump have not made phone calls recently

Good morning, welcome to our U.S. political coverage, as China insists that “no phone” between President Xi Jinping and his American counterparts comes after Donald Trump said he had a conversation with Chinese leaders.

The world's two largest economies are locked in an escalating trade war triggered by Trump's expropriation of Chinese goods, which has reached 145% on many products.

In an interview in Time magazine on April 22, Trump insisted that Chinese leader XI called him despite Beijing denying any connection between the two countries in their fierce trade dispute.

The U.S. president did not say when a phone call or specified what was discussed.

Asked about Monday's comments, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jikun said: "As far as I know, there is no phone call between the two heads of state recently."

"China and the United States have not negotiated or negotiated on tariffs," he added.

Trade disputes continue to rumbling as the United States prepares to commemorate Trump's turbulent changes at home and abroad. In other news:
