Despite Europa League win, Tottenham Post Postecoglou | Football News

Angel Postecoglou talked about his strong sense of pride for the Totterham Hotspur manager for two years as he was fired by a Premier League club.

The 59-year-old Australian won the Europa League last month by beating Manchester United, bringing the club to their first trophy.

But the club beat him on Friday after his worst top-tier campaign since 1976-77, gaining a spot in the Premier League relegation zone after losing 22 games.

"My overwhelming emotions are a pride when I reflect on myself as Tottenham Hotspur manager," he said in a statement shortly after the firing.

“The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing this experience with everyone who truly loves this club and seeing the impact it has on them is something I will never forget.

"That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and a firm belief in dreams. It is impossible to overcome many challenges and many noises to try to accomplish what many people say."

Postecoglou, who spoke at the Europa League final, said his achievements should ensure Tottenham does not have to wait too long to win the next trophy.

"Our foundation lays the foundation, which means this club doesn't have to wait for another 17 years to get the next success," he said. "I have confidence in this group of players and know their potential and their growth is more."

Although Tottenham fans were split by Postecoglou's future, he sent a message to supporters.

“I sincerely thank those who are the fate of the club, supporters,” he said. “I know there are some tough times, but I always feel like they want me to succeed, and that gives me all the motivation to push.

"Finally, I want to thank the people I have been with me every day for the past two years. A great group of young people are now legends of this football club and outstanding coaches who never doubted we could be some special coaches. We stay in touch forever."

The 59-year-old ended up paying for a terrible Premier League season, with Tottenham ranked 17th.

"The board of directors unanimously concluded that it is in the club's best interest to make changes."

“After a positive start to the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we have scored 78 points from our last 66 PL matches. This has peaked in the worst PL result ever last season.”

Postecoglou, the club's first silverware since 2008, was the second day after his side beat Manchester United in Bilbao and two years later, the second day after his side beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao, and the victory also brought them to the Champions League next season.

The former Celtics manager had to face problems in his future, but he won his claims earlier last season and he always won trophys in his second season of work.

He also brought Tottenham to the League Cup semi-finals, but their league campaign was the worst since the club's last relegation in 1976-77.

Several of the club's first teams have expressed support for Postecoglou since defeating Manchester United, but chairman Daniel Levy is now looking for his fifth full-time manager in six years since Mauricio Pochettino was fired in 2019.

"Sometimes there are serious situations - injury and then decide to prioritize our European campaign," the club said. "While winning the Europa League this season is one of the club's greatest moments, we can't base our emotions on the same side as this victory."

Several managers have been linked to Tottenham’s job, including Thomas Frank of Brentford and Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace.

Postecoglou will walk away with his pride intact and handsome rewards, but his recent comments to fans in the Europa League victory parade that the third season of the TV series is always better than the second season now.

For postecoglou, everything is fine. Since the award-winning team in 1961, he has started the 2023-24 campaign by coaching Tottenham Hotspur into the best start of the top season.

The table quickly dropped, and despite finishing fifth in his first campaign, the momentum has disappeared.

This season, Tottenham Hotspur has only scored 38 points and lost 22 top games. They scored five points from their last 12 league games, and the only win in that game was against Southampton, where they nearly avoided being the worst team ever in the Premier League.

Postecoglou pointed out a long list of injuries, denying Christian Romero, Micky van de ven, Dejan Kulusevski, Destiny Udogie, Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and son Son Heung-Min.

But while it was obviously one of the toughest calls from Levy's chairman, he concluded that Postecoglou was not the one who led the club forward.

"We believe that what we think is the right decision is the best opportunity for us to succeed, not a simple decision," the club statement said.

"We have a talented young squad and Ange has provided us with a great platform. We want to thank him. We wish him all the best in the future - he will always welcome him back to our home."
