DeSantis touts Florida's 'future thinking', vows to help Trump govern

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reiterated his past criticism of California on Thursday's "Hannity" show, praising the Sunshine State's "futures thinking."

"Looking at what happened in California shows that the failures we discussed that night unfortunately exacerbated a very dire situation," DeSantis said of the 2023 debate with Gov. Gavin Newsom. "They're not managing it well. Water resources or forest management are keeping up."

"This is the way of thinking of the past. Florida is the way of thinking of the future."

California leaders have faced intense scrutiny since wildfires broke out in the Golden State last week. However, criticism of the country’s “leftist ideology” is not new.

“You almost have to try to screw California up,” DeSantis said during the “Hannity” special on November 30, 2023. “That’s what Gavin Newsom has done since he became governor. "The reality is they failed because of his left-wing ideology."

In the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires, many have expressed concerns about California Democratic leaders' policies, including funding for first responders, especially as the incoming Trump administration prepares to take office.

DeSantis told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Americans will see "states like Florida take seriously their responsibility to uphold the law and want to work constructively with the new administration, and states like California There’s a huge contrast between trying harder when you fail.”

The executive singled out immigration and border security as the most important areas of comparison.

"When Donald Trump takes office, he will take the border and illegal immigration seriously. California is a sanctuary state. Los Angeles is a sanctuary city. They will fight him every step of the way. They will not cooperate in Florida … We are not a sanctuary state and I banned sanctuary cities my first year as governor.”

DeSantis vowed that his state would "do our part" in supporting Trump's agenda and urged other states to "step up" in support.

"We're going to commit resources. We're going to be able to do a lot of things to really have an impact. I think you're going to see very serious, positive changes, very quickly," he said.

"We as Republicans have been talking about illegal immigration at the border for decades. It's time to put up or shut up. President Trump can't do it alone. He needs the support of Congress, he needs the states The support strengthens and complements their efforts.”
