Florida Gov. Ron Desantis signed SB 700 into law Tuesday, eliminating the ability of local governments to add fluoride or other medical additives to the state's public water supply, a move fueled by proponents of medical freedom and health transparency.
"The fluoride in the fluoride in the water supply is essentially a mandatory drug," DeSantis said at a news conference in Tallahassee. "At the end of the day, we should all agree that people should get informed consent."
The new law is part of Florida's broader farm bill and does not completely ban fluoride.
Floridians can still buy fluorinated water from private suppliers. However, this is contrary to government, which determines that there is no say in your glass.

“When it’s in the sun, no one whizzes by,” state Sen. Keith Truenow told Fox News Digital. “We will protect our natural resources and enable Floridians to make the best choices when the government forces unnecessary additives.”
Florida Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson joined the signing, stressing that this is not someone who rejects fluoride, but to make sure that the medication is not taken without consent.

"Today, Florida has taken a bold step to announce that drinking water will moisturize, not medicine," Simpson said in a statement to Fox News' digital numbers.
"Without Floridians' consent, simple and simple. Through our Florida Farm Act, we're going to be loud and clear: Florida's water will be clean, it will be safe, it will be medicine-free. That's the freedom in Florida's Free State."
This effort is linked with the Secretary of State and Public Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

"Today, the efforts to ban local governments from unilaterally adding fluoride to public drinking water are our commitment to becoming the next iteration of the logic of Florida's Free State," said Bryan Griffin, director of communications at DeSantis. "Ron DeSantis is delivered again."
DeSantis also linked the move to public distrust of healthcare facilities, citing policies in the COVID-era era have been affected.
"People are more suspicious when these elites try to stuff anything on our throats," he said. "The burden is on them to prove why people should be forced. It really shouldn't be done."
The legislation also includes broad support for Florida’s agricultural sector, new consumer transparency laws, and restrictions on environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices for farmers and ranchers.
DeSantis also promises actions on geoengineering.

"Florida is not a test scene for geoengineering," DeSantis wrote on Tuesday. "Florida's state of freedom means freedom from government or private participants to unilaterally apply chemicals or geoengineering to people or public places."

Critics of SB 700 believe fluorination has been used to combat tooth decay, especially in children.
But DeSantis noted that state surgeon Joseph Ladapo's guidance update, expressed concerns about the impact of fluoride on pregnant women and children.
"You don't even have to agree with this analysis, but people should still have the right to opt out," the governor said.
Kennedy did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
