New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement Saturday.

The 2014 second-round draft pick has been dealing with a shoulder injury, which has put his 2025 season in doubt – he missed seven games last year with a concussion and a fractured hand.

"After prayer reflection, in discussions with Heather, I decided to retire from the National Football League," Carl said in a statement.

“We have been very happy for over a decade and we are forever very grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s hard to find the right word to thank all the teammates, coaches, managers, ownership, ownership, team officials, and especially the fans who have made this journey so special. You’re doing nothing.

The Saints announced that Carl suffered a lip tear injury in March and that he "had a significant change in the rotator cuff."

The Saint said the surgery would put the season in danger and that he would most likely not find his old power.

The car ranked third in the 2016 NFL MVP vote, but his season was shortened due to an ankle fracture. The center of the Oakland Raiders that season was 12-3.

Carl has participated in only one playoff game throughout his career due to injury, losing 26-19 to the final Super Bowl champion Cincinnati Bangladesh champion in the 2021 playoffs.
