DePaul men's basketball team defeats Georgetown University, ending 39-game losing streak in Big East regular season

DePaul defeated a Big East opponent for the first time in 730 days.

The Blue Devils ended a 39-game Big East regular season losing streak with a 73-68 victory over Georgetown on Friday.

Before defeating Georgetown, DePaul's last Big East win came on Jan. 18, 2023, over eighth-ranked Xavier.

DePaul's victory over Georgetown was not only a Big East victory, but also their first road win since December 3, 2022.

Three DePaul players scored in double figures, including guard CJ Gunn who scored 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and had 5 rebounds.

DePaul led 39-28 at halftime as Leighton Blocker scored all 14 of his points in the first half, including DePaul's final six points of the half.

Malik Mack and Drew Fields led the scoring for Georgetown in the loss.

Mike scored 19 points, 6 assists and 2 steals, and Field also scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Caleb Williams had 10 points and six rebounds, while Curtis Williams Jr. also scored 10 points in the loss to Georgetown.

DePaul's win snapped a five-game losing streak.

DePaul's losing streak in the Big Ten is tied for the fourth-longest losing streak in the league in the AP Poll era, according to ESPN research.

The longest losing streak in league history belongs to Colgate, who lost 47 consecutive games from 1984 to 1987.

With the win, DePaul improves to 10-9 (1-7 in Big East play) and will look to continue their winning ways Tuesday night against Creighton at 9 p.m. ET.

The Hoyas move to 12-6 (3-4 Big East play) with the loss and will look to turn things around when they host Villanova on Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
