The frenzy between Trump and Putin did not lead to progress in Ukraine's ceasefire. The Justice Department is investigating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Rules for the Covid vaccine rollout are changing.
This is what you need to know today.
President Donald Trump hopes to end the war in Ukraine and makes no secret that he hopes to make a profitable deal with Russia and reintroduces the international financial side. But Russian President Vladimir Putin has no desire for any ceasefire and he is happy to continue delaying any clear decision.
So, perhaps predictably, the call between the two presidents this week has not made huge progress in reaching a ceasefire agreement. But by the end of their conversation, one thing is clear: the brothers are real.

"The tone and spirit of the conversation are very good," Trump said of his two-hour conversation, adding that Putin is a "good gentleman." Meanwhile, Putin adviser Yuri Ushakov said Trump and Putin called each other in their names, “None of them wants to end the conversation.”
But one question lingers: What does this Bonhomie actually provide for men in the White House and the Kremlin?
For Putin, it's time. One expert said that if the Russian leader’s call is with Trump delaying any decision, then “I think Putin will make it a good job.” But if a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump, then Trump will have to leave something. ”

A source said the Justice Department is conducting a criminal investigation into former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. House Republicans demanded a federal investigation into Cuomo and argued that he lied to the House Oversight Committee, saying he was not involved in reviewing the New York Department of Health’s report, involving the state’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as governor.
Cuomo's spokesman questioned the news, which was during his campaign for New York City Mayor Eric Adams. "It's a simple and simple legal and electoral intervention," a spokesman said. The federal corruption allegations against Adams were dismissed after he began working with the Trump administration on immigration enforcement. Read the full story here.
Meanwhile, former FBI Director James Comey sparked a fire on the right last week and conducted a Secret Service investigation into Instagram photos showing shells arranged in the form of "8647", putting aside his chances of facing criminal charges in a signing of Barnes & Noble in New York City this week. In his new review of Comey, he was frustrated that the Trump Justice Department continued to target political enemies as well as universities and law firms.
“My thing to me, I hope everyone else is just a distraction that disappears over the weekend,” he said. “But something more important happens here – people who use power to erode the rule of law.” Read more About Comey's reaction to the second Trump administration.
With the FDA planning how to release the Covid vaccine and who will be able to get updated lenses, the updated COVID vaccine (probably in the following years) may be available this fall and in the following years. The mission is conducted at tomorrow’s FDA Vaccine Advisory Committee meeting, with external experts discussing which strains should be included in the next round of COVID shooting.
FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary and Dr. Vinay Prasad, the institution’s new vaccine director, wrote in a paper in the New England Journal of Medicine that any new Covid vaccine now must now undergo placebo-controlled clinical trials and at least six months. This means that Pfizer and Hyundai completed new trials in time in fall, which is nearly impossible. During the Q&A session, Makary and Prasad also suggested that vaccines may not be updated every year.
Changes in the rule are not expected to affect the fall rollout for older people and others at risk of serious illness, as drugmakers can exempt additional testing of these groups. What else should I know about this.
The world is looking for the past to mark the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. But advocates say what happened at that time is also part of the present and future. That's because The United States has insufficient resettlement decades ago Experts say Vietnamese refugees are particularly vulnerable to deportation under the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.
Many refugees facing dismissal orders belong to what immigration experts call "immigration from schools to deportation pipelines." Advocates say this shows how those who are resettled in the United States have access to resources, are entangled in the criminal justice system, and are threatened with deportation while serving their sentences. - Kimmy YamNBC Asian American Journalist
