David Spade recently appeared on Theo von's podcast and revealed that he had thought of a sequel to Tommy Boy, his 1995 friend comedy with the late Chris Farley. Considering that there was no "Tommy Boy" in Farley, Spades immediately closed the court. The two actors are close friends and co-starred "SNL" for five years, then played "Tommy Boy". Farley died in 1997 from a 33-year-old drug overdose.
"I was sold by a 'Tommy Boy 2', which is our character's kids together," Spade said. "I was promoted two years ago and I couldn't seem to find a scene without Chris Farley. He was the whole movie. It would be too much to sell out. I can't imagine. No one can do it."
Tommy Boy starred in Farley, the immature son of an automatic tycoon. When his father died, Farley's role worked with the Spade accountant in an attempt to save the family business. Although the film is not a box office hit (it only made $32 million worldwide), it became a cult classic thanks to its home video release. A year later, Spade and Farley quickly reunited in the movie Black Sheep. Spade told Esquire Magazine in 2022 that the two actors were considering a third film before Farley passed away.
"Two years after 'Tommy Boy' came out, they told us it made $100 million on video. We couldn't believe it," Spade said at the time. “It does go on as time goes by. We talked about doing another thing, but Farley wanted to do more drama, so I said, ‘Go and do it.’ I met him two months ago (he died) and he was like, “Everyone was talking about “Tommy Boy” and “Black Sheep.” It's not that interesting. …I think about Fali every day.
“He likes that I’m smart and he’s stupid,” Spade added. "Farley and I were hanging around all the time. He always wanted me to make fun of him because he thought it was too funny. We played. He was big. He was big. But the truth is, when you look back, he wasn't that big. He wasn't big. He was big, but he was really tweeting towards the finish line.
