Dakota Johnson recalls how her father, Don Johnson, cut off her after she wasn't in college.

The 35-year-old actress revealed in an interview with her "Materialist" co-star Pedro Pascal that she applied for only one university (the Giuliade School), but she was rejected by the prestigious music school.

Johnson chose not to apply to other universities and initially could not support himself with a performance that could land at the time.

"I didn't go in, my dad cut me off because I didn't go to college," Johnson told Pascal. "So, I started auditioning. I think when I was doing "social networking" I was 19 and then there was very little work and stuff."

Dakota told Pascal that applying for Juilliard is indeed challenging, too. Juliad School in New York City is one of the world's most elite art schools, accepting only about 10% of applicants.

Don, 75, shared Johnson with his ex-wife Melanie Griffith, 67. Don and Griffith first got married in 1976 but divorced six months later. In 1989, the "Miami Vice Chairman" star and "Work Girl" actress fell into a close again and welcomed Dakota, but they split again in 1996.

Johnson told Pascal that she had no typical school experience because she spent most of her time traveling with Don and Griffith while filming her acting project.

"I traveled with my parents until I was 10," she said. "I went to a bunch of different schools and we lived in Spain for a while because my mom and Antonio (Bandras) were married. Once, I went to an all-girl Catholic boarding school. It was a fun experience."

She went on to say she moved back to Los Angeles and attended a new New Road School in her last three years of high school. However, the "Lady Net" actress admitted that she was not the best student.

"My job in basic school is terrible because I never learned time management or doing homework," Johnson said. "I like English. I'm good at Spanish, I'm not in math. I did the visual arts, and then at some point, they had a pseudo theatre program I was involved in, and I got kicked out because I gave up my school job and started the course that failed."

Johnson played a secondary role in Aaron Sorkin's popular 2010 biographical drama Social Networks. The actress made a breakthrough in her career in 2015 when she took "50 Shades of Gray" as Anastasia Steele and reprised her role in two sequels to the film.
