Cowboys' Pickens sees the big deal about working with Prescott, Lamb

FRISCO, Texas - New Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens is about to pair with quarterback Dak Prescott and Pro Bowl receiver Ceedee Lamb after he traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I just feel like you won't be able to double everyone on the schematic, so it's going to be a great thing for me and him," Pickens said on an introductory call with Dallas Media on Thursday.

ESPN Research said the Cowboys won Pickens and 2027 sixth round picks, a 2026 third round pick and 2027 fifth round, landing the only receiver in the NFL on an average of at least 16 yards per receive per game and at least 2,000 catch yards in the past three seasons.

In his first three seasons with the Steelers, Pickens caught the pass from Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. In 2023, Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes, although he was limited to eight games after suffering a hamstring tear that required surgery.

"I'm sure the first guys to be[connected with]were Dark," Pickens said. "For years, he's just watching his game and he's a very prolific quarterback. Smart QB. I'm so happy to be working with him."

Although Prescott will be subject to some restrictions in the offseason plan, he made a throw with the pass catcher. Pickens said he plans to go to Texas full-time once he finds a place to live and a vehicle.

He said he would accept any roles that appear, but did not give much attention to the tags of the receiver (No. 1A and 1B or 2). The Lambs have presented more than 100 catches in three straight seasons and four straight 1,000-yard seasons.

"To be honest, this is the first time I've heard of these things. I think it's normal for two receivers," Pickens said. "When I've ever seen football, there's always a good receiver and there's always another good receiver on the other side. I just feel like we'll work well with each other."

Pickens’ time in Pittsburgh was characterized by many live events, leading Steelers coach Mike Tomlin to say last season that the receiver had to “grow up.”

What was Pickens’ reaction?

"It only takes one day at a time. I feel like everyone in the world is trying to develop their own self," he said. "I feel like my growth is taking a good direction toward the Cowboys."

Pickens, 24, said he discovered the deal “when others found it,” but knew that although he didn’t ask for it, there was discussion.

"I personally can't really change anyone's opinion. Like I said, keep growing," Pickens said. "I feel like everyone in the world has to grow. As you grow up, you'll get older.

Other key veterans like Pickens and other important Cowboys veterans like Micah Parsons, cornerback Daron Bland and tight-fitting Jake Ferguson will all enter the final year of his rookie contract.

"Honestly, my feet are my feet now," Pickens said. "I'm not really thinking about contract talks. I'm so glad to be with the Cowboys right now."
