The Dallas Cowboys are looking for a new leader to salvage their disarray. One of their old leaders thinks he has some solutions.
Former Dallas linebacker and Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware told Fox News Digital that he may be considered for the next Cowboys coaching staff under certain conditions. He wants his former teammate Jason Witten to become the team's head coach.
“Now that I’m vouching for him as the head coach, he’ll probably vouch for me to come over and be some kind of defensive coach,” Ware said in an exclusive interview. "If Jason Witten becomes the head coach, there is a 94% chance that DeMarcus will be very interested in joining the team."
Witten has been a head coach at the high school level since taking over in 2021 at Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, Texas. Witten reportedly turned down multiple assistant coaching positions in the NFL and college programs to accept the job at Liberty Christian, according to ESPN.
Ware, meanwhile, served as a pass rush consultant to the Denver Broncos coaching staff in 2018.
Ware said he would prioritize dealing with current star linebacker Micah Parsons if Ware were to join the Assumption coaching staff led by Witten. Ware said the Cowboys' defense lacks Parsons' "lightning" that is necessary for them to compete for the Super Bowl.
"If he can be consistent out there and play like he did at the beginning of the season, he's like the jolt of energy that the team needs to wake up," Ware said. “If we can keep him on defense, they’re going to win more football games and take the pressure off (quarterback) Dak Prescott.”
If a staff led by Witten and Ware emerges, Ware suggested Parsons would not do weekly podcasts during the NFL season, as Parsons has done since the start of the 2023 season, when "The Edge With Micah Parsons” reports on Bleacher.
"He probably won't do that during the season, and I know he won't," Ware said, "because he'll be so focused on getting to the quarterback and wreaking havoc in the backfield."

Ware said doing a weekly podcast during the season was not something he would have done in his career, especially so early in his career. Ware believes it's a "difficult" balancing act for Parsons.
“It’s very difficult,” Ware said of Parsons’ overlapping football and media obligations. "There are things you may not be able to say, and there are questions that will be asked that force you to make news."
In a November 2023 episode of The Parsons Podcast, Parsons revealed after vomiting on the sideline during a game against the Carolina Panthers that his teammates pressured him to take an overdose of C4 before the game. energy powder, which caused him chest pain and eventual nausea. He ends the story by suggesting that he gave in to "peer pressure."
In a September episode of that year, while discussing the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Parsons encouraged other NFL players to pursue relationships with high-status celebrity women, specifically stating Zendaya is the one they should pursue. Zendaya said this despite being in a long-term relationship with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland since 2021.
Parsons has since faced backlash from teammates over his decision to produce an in-season podcast. This criticism was made by Cowboys safety Malik Hooker on another podcast.
"My advice to Micah is: make sure we're OK and stay grounded," Hooker told the "All Facts No Brakes" podcast on June 27. "Because if we go out and work, the running game sucks, but You do the podcast every week — and you know the running game sucks — so what do you really care about? Do you care about the crowd that’s watching, or do you care about the success of our team and what we’re trying to achieve? Super Bowl? "
When Parsons was pressed by reporters on Aug. 21 about how his podcast might be a distraction during training camp on Aug. 21, the star pass rusher became enthusiastic.
“I don’t think anyone really cares what I’m doing on a Monday afternoon when I’m home with the kids,” he said. "So why would they care if I'm on Xbox? I think we all have our own free time. When you leave here, are you going to miss me at home? I hope not.
"I try not to say (anything) controversial, but everyone is always going to be attracted to something. They're going to try to accept one thing. We all have opinions. We're not going to agree with what everyone says. That's it Life".

Over the next few months, Parsons endured his worst season as a professional. He recorded a career-low 12 sacks, 43 tackles for loss and 23 quarterback hits while playing in a career-low 13 games. He missed time due to injury for the first time in his NFL career. The team endured its worst season since he arrived in 2021, going 7-10, leading to the departure of head coach Mike McCarthy.
Now, Parsons enters the offseason preparing to change coaches for the first time as a pro. He is also seeking a contract extension, which some experts predict could exceed the largest contract extension for a defensive player in league history. The record is currently held by San Francisco 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa, who signed a five-year, $170 million contract in 2023.
Parsons' current salary at "Bleacher Report" is currently unknown. Regardless of the amount, it would only supplement NFL base salaries of $2.2 million in 2023 and $2.9 million in 2024. However, that number will jump to $24 million in 2025 based on the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. He would then become a free agent and could command a salary well above that number.
If Ware ends up on the Cowboys' coaching staff, Parsons may end up having to sacrifice his Bleacher Report salary while his NFL base salary increases.

Still, Ware said he has no problem with Parsons doing podcasts in the offseason.
"Starting a podcast and doing those types of things, I just don't do it during the season. Because I'm focused on football, winning football games and getting championships, but after that, we can talk about everything we want no matter what sport, no matter what we're in What to do,” Ware said.
"When I win a lot, I can say a lot."
Ware's work with Parsons is just part of his larger vision for the Cowboys defense and what he's trying to bring to the team as a coach.
When asked what the Cowboys' defense has lacked in recent years, Ware responded: "Being focused in those critical moments at the end of the season." "Because usually most of the disruption happens at the end of the season because you're trying to...every Everyone reaches out to you.”
Ware learned the consequences of a lack of focus before the playoffs during his career with the Cowboys. For him, he said the most difficult playoff moment he ever experienced was the loss to the New York Giants.
"Toughest playoff loss? Are you kidding me? All to the Giants!" Ware said. And then they won the Super Bowl, which was probably one of the hardest things to do. "
The Cowboys lost to the Giants in the 2007 NFC Divisional Round. The Cowboys were 13-3 and a Super Bowl favorite, while the Giants were a wild-card team with a 10-win record. 6 negative. Former Dallas quarterback Tony Romo threw a game-ending interception in the final seconds to seal the game, but not after he was seen vacationing in Cabo, Mexico, with then-girlfriend Jessica Simpson , he came under heavy scrutiny for his failure to secure victory. The team's first-round bye week. Witten vacationed with them.
But Ware believes the time off is detrimental to the entire team, not just Romo and Witten.
"I don't think it's about the travel, it's about the rest," Ware said. "We have what's called mojo, and no matter what the team does, you have that 'it' factor. We do. But when you take breaks, sometimes a team can lose it... We should be there every day Practice keeping our minds and bodies sharp, but not sitting around or taking a vacation, but something really relaxing because when we went back I could tell something was missing and that was the advantage we had.

In 2011, the Giants and Cowboys met in the final week of the regular season to compete for the division title. The Giants won that game 31-14 and went on to repeat as Super Bowl champions against Brady and the Patriots.
Ware left the Cowboys for the Denver Broncos in 2014 and won his first and only career ring a year later in Super Bowl L.
The Cowboys have not been to the Super Bowl since the 1995 season.
But if the Cowboys hire Witten as their next head coach, Ware may have a chance to help break that drought.
