A woman who accused Conor McGregor of sexually assaulting her after a 2023 NBA Finals game is suing the former UFC champion.
According to the Associated Press, the lawsuit described the woman as a 49-year-old senior vice president of a well-known Wall Street financial institution. She claimed that on June 9, 2023, after Game 4 of the Heat's NBA Finals series against the Denver Nuggets, McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom at the CaSea Center, home of the Miami Heat.
Her attorney, James Dunn, filed the civil lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. "My client thought long and hard about the decision to file this civil case and was concerned about the impact it might have on her job on Wall Street," Dunn said in a statement to The Associated Press. Nonetheless, her main goal in filing the lawsuit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault."
in a statement rolling stonesMcGregor's attorney, Barbara Llanes, referred to a 2023 criminal investigation into the allegations and said "state prosecutors concluded there were no cases to pursue." She added, " Almost two years and at least three attorneys later, the plaintiffs have a new false story and we are confident this case will be dismissed as well."
The woman is also suing staff at the stadium where the alleged attack occurred, accusing staff and security of having "actual knowledge of the unlawfulness of the conduct" and failing to protect her. The lawsuit alleges that McGregor was provided alcohol despite staff being "clearly aware that the risk of assault was high."
The documents also state that earlier in the night, McGregor punched the Miami Heat mascot twice during halftime in an apparent attempt to promote pain spray. The mascot "Bernie" was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Tuesday's lawsuit stems from a demand letter sent to McGregor in June 2023, alleging sexual assault against the mixed martial arts artist. In the letter, the MMA star is accused of "escalating his aggressive, unprovoked and heinous behavior by violently sexually assaulting and assaulting clients of this company in the men's restroom of the Kasea Center." McGregor denied the allegations at the time.
An incident report was filed with the City of Miami Police Department on June 11, 2023, but the Florida Attorney's Office reportedly declined to proceed with charges against McGregor.
In November last year, McGregor won a civil case against him in Ireland after Nikita Hand accused him of brutally assaulting her in a Dublin hotel penthouse in 2018. Ordered to pay more than $250,000.
