Colombia's "burglary travel" suspect arrested during a series of Burbank family break-ins

Seven Columbian nationals allegedly had a string of so-called “burglary” home disruptions in Burbank and other Southern California cities.

Theft appears to be part of a trend involving South American groups, members of South American groups entering the United States with tourist visas and then targeting wealthy residences. According to police, the groups often steal jewelry and other high-value items that can be easily exchanged for cash and may evade home security systems by using devices to interrupt Wi-Fi signals.

Police said the seven suspects were arrested in Arizona on May 23 and linked to thefts in Burbank and other cities in California.

Burbank Police Department officials said in a press release that they worked with Scottsdale police to share the description of the suspect's car after Burbank investigators suspected the team was heading to Arizona.

Scottsdale police surveillance the group because the home was stolen in Tempe and Mesa, Arizona. The suspect was later arrested on May 23 on a short-term rent in Scottsdale after police searched the scene at the site.

The suspect, who held on a cash-only margin of $150,000, was Nicolas Rojas Leon, 23, Joan Sebastian Orozco-Vargas, 26, Andres David Sanchez-Novoa, 38, Natalia Isabella Ortiz-Daza, 26, Herandez-Manrique, 25, according to Burbank police.

Scottsdale police officer Aaron Bolin said a female member of the group allegedly used the dog as part of the group's cover.

According to Scottsdale police, the group was allegedly caught in a burglary in California and was stolen. According to police, the dog is reuniting with its owner, who did not disclose the city where the dog lives.

Phoenix's KNXV-TV shows videos of officers of armored vehicles passing by in front of their residence. Later, people can be seen sitting on the ground with handcuffs. The officer was also seen trying to catch a French bulldog running towards his neighbor's house.

Last year, several Columbian nationals suspected of participating in the South American criminal circle in Los Angeles County were arrested last year. Glendale police said they found several jewelry boxes, as well as a building hard hat and vest, which police said could have been used to get close to the house without attracting attention.

According to LAPD, two members of the South American group were arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department last month after police found multi-million dollar cargo in the San Fernando Valley storage room.

About $1.2 million worth of goods were found in containers, including clothing and speakers. Police also intercepted stolen Bitcoin mining computers worth $2.7 million to travel to Hong Kong as part of the operation.
