Coats fight from the big deficit, but can't completely overcome Murray

Oxford - It was a long, round-trip, incredibly tough 13-11 loss to Murray State, meaning that if they wanted to steal a 18-year super-regional drought and expand Danny Hall's final season, the jacket would have to go a long, tough way.

Despite counterattacking from a seven-game winning streak, Georgia Tech (41-18) can never lead the scoreboard. Murray State University (41-13) scored three games in the seventh and eighth innings, including solo home runs by Jonathan Hogart and Dan Tauken and were sitting in the driver's seat to win a seat in the Oxford area.

The jackets gave themselves a chance in the ninth and third and two outs, getting a chance in the ninth place, but couldn’t find a hit to tie in time or move on as they will now play against regional host Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon.

"Obviously not the result we wanted, but you have to give Murray State credit," Hall said after the loss. "They had some great hits. There were a lot of running at one point in time, and it was a few runs. They just kept fighting. We couldn't make the court to get off the court and get them out. And then for our guys, we came up with a way to end the game with us and we couldn't run a game again. In the ninth inning, the court, let the guys go into second and third, but couldn't get hit."

Just like Friday, Jacket played three games against Alex Hernandez on Saturday and played with RBI hits, then several hits, hitting two hits by batsman Vahn Lackey, and finally got a mistake on Hard Thit Ball, which was eventually won by Caleb Daniel first on Caleb Daniel and gave Lackey a score and a 3-0 lead.

Murray State got a straight answer at the bottom of the first, but scored five innings innings, led 5-3 and forced starter Brady Jones to exit before he could get the game through the big game. Racing drivers' Luke Milstone, Will Vierling and Conner Cunningham all won RBI singles, and Dan Tauken had two singles in the inning.

Murray State added another five shots to raise the lead to fourth place 10-3 as Milstone connected three innings home runs, while Tauken followed up with two hitters. Both appear in two innings.

Georgia Tech continued the roller coaster nature of the game by putting together the tops of seven strokes in the fifth inning to get the team back to 10-10. Kyle Lodise and Alex Hernandez started the rally with RBI singles, with Lackey following three home runs. After a few hitters, John Giesler tied the game on the left field line with two doubles on the clutch.

Murray State led 11-10 as Jonathan Hogart performed a solo home run 0-2 on the left field wall. Several times batsman Milstone hit a sac fly, pushing the lead 12-10.

Georgia Tech answered eighth in the eighth place, which he scored 12-11 with Lodise’s choice in RBI Fielder, but the jacket was stranded in a huge strikeout for Graham Kelham of Murray.

Murray State immediately got the run, leading eighth place 13-11 in the first game of Tauken. It was Tauken's second race and the fourth night for the racer.

Tauken and Milstone led the racers' offense with multiple blows and five repeated efforts. Dustin Mercer and Cunningham also made two hits, with Hogart, Vierling and Cunningham having one RBI, respectively.

"They don't have a lot of them, they walk a lot," Hall said. "And we just don't have enough courts. They do a great job of hitting what we throw. We made some mistakes on home runs. As long as the court isn't good. If you're not in a good position, good batsmen have a chance to run them out of the court, which is not unfortunately we just want them to win five training sessions. Those guys who swing and missed from the bats."

Carson Kerce took a walk and Connor Shouse doubled to put the runners in ninth place, but Murray State's Graham Kelham was able to score a strikeout to finish the game and earn his sixth save of the season. He threw two innings, not allowing four strikeouts and one walk.

Dylan Zentko (Dylan Zentko) (4-1) also got a racer's victory after working out well from the bullpen, scoring 2 2/3 innings and making three hits with two 3-pointers. He followed starters Isaac Silva and Reliever Reese Oakley, giving up 10 runs together and made four walks.

Despite being one of the jacket's most effective pitchers of the night, Tech took six pitchers in Kayden Campbell (2-1) but stood out in the fifth jacket. He entered 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits for 5 hits and a walk. Brady Jones, Mason Patel, Brett Barfield, Porter Buursema and Caden Spivey all saw the jackets on the mound on tough nights, overall staff.

Lackey's Tech night, which included two hits, included home runs, was the biggest offensive night and earned four RBIs. Lodise, Hernandez and Giesler all ran twice, and Shouse got two doubles after becoming a pinch hitter late in the game. Drew Rogers also scored two hits.

Murray State, now in the Oxford area driver's seat, will wait on Sunday at 7pm/6pm Center until Sunday at Ole Miss and Georgia Tech play the earlier knockout winner in Eastern/2pm Central.
