"What happened in our field this morning, another coach disrespects our colleagues ads, and they work hard on anyone in the whole program. He disrespects our field people, they are the salt of the planet," Schnall said. "These guys will do anything for our program. That doesn't work, it needs to be improved."

O'Sullivan reportedly was angry at the Gators' showdown with ECU, causing him to erupt with crews in coastal Carolina from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday. Videos of the dispute began to circulate on social media.

On Monday, O'Sullivan and Gators' athletic director Scott Stricklin made a statement about the matter.

"I gave my emotions the best performance before yesterday's NCAA Championship game against East Carolina and conveyed that energy in ways I shouldn't have," O'Sullivan said in his statement. "I want to sincerely apologize for my actions and behaviors, for the entire NCAA coastal Carolina, East Carolina and Fairfield, the NCAA regional sector of the NCAA, including field representatives Rick French and Mark Scalf, and all Gator Nation.

“Yesterday I did not represent the appropriate standards of the University of Florida and assumed full responsibility for it.”

Stricklin added: “This afternoon, I met Kevin O'Sullivan and told him that his actions before yesterday’s NCAA Championship game did not exceed expectations for the Crocodile to treat people. One of the core values of our department is respect, and the unacceptable actions of coach O'Sullivan failed to prove it.

“On behalf of Florida Track and Field, I would like to personally apologize to everyone affected, including NCAA representatives, Coastal Carolina and its staff, East Carolina and its team, and Crocodile State.”

"This is a national championship coach and he thinks he can come here to try to bully the people around him," Schnar said. "It's disappointing. It's disappointing that many coaches look up to in order to make him do that."

With the win over the ECU, Coastal Carolina will face the third-seed Auburn Tigers, the three best super regions to determine who will head to Omaha’s University World Series.
