Notre Dame and Clemson know each other well in football.

The relationship will become more familiar in the future, from 2027 to 2038 after two college football powers announced a 12-year family arrangement agreement Tuesday.

Clemson and Notre Dame are already planning to play in 2027, 2028, 2031, 2034 and 2037. Under the improved schedule, the Tigers will host odd years in that time frame, while the Battle Irish will host even years.

Clemson has a 5-3 advantage in the history series, which is highlighted by some memorable matches.

Clemson has won four championships since 2015, including two playoff matches.

Clemson beat Notre Dame 30-3 in the 2018 Cotton Bowl in the College Football Playoff semifinals before winning the national championship two weeks later. In 2020, Notre Dame, who served as a full-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference due to COVID-19 scheduling issues, defeated the Tigers in the gunfight but lost to Clemson in the ACC Championship game.

"Even over the past decade, the showdown between Clemson and Notre Dame has produced incredibly memorable moments and games," Clemson track and field director Graham Neff said in a press release. "We are very excited about the creation of the 12-year series between these two major shows, because we know it will be a must-see game for fans of the Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame Stadium and fans of TV viewers nationwide."

Both teams entered the expanded college football playoffs last year, with Ireland reaching the national championship game before losing 34-23 to Ohio State.

Clemson won nine or more games in 14 straight seasons, the second-longest winning streak in the U.S. and the fourth-longest winning streak in major college football history. Notre Dame has won nine or more games in the past eight seasons.

“We strive to create a football schedule that will enable us to succeed in the college football playoffs, a goal that requires us to establish such a historical partnership with Clemson,” said Pete Bevacqua, vice president of athletics at Notre Dame. “This competition has produced the most memorable moments in recent college football history, and the games our fans deserve continue to leave indelible memories.”
