City National Bank will donate $3 million to Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts

City National Bank, one of the regional financial institutions with extensive ties to the entertainment industry, is ramping up its response following the wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles County over the past week.

The bank run by Howard Hammond and its parent company RBC have pledged $300 to the Entertainment Industry Foundation, International Medical Corps, Los Angeles County Neighborhood Housing Services, United Way of Greater Los Angeles, West End $10,000 Los Angeles Community Development Corporation and more groups.

"As the largest bank headquartered in Los Angeles, this tragedy means a lot to us. Our customers, colleagues and communities are experiencing unimaginable devastation," said Hammond, president and CEO. “We know we have an important role to play in helping address immediate needs after the fires as well as long-term rebuilding efforts.”

Previously, financial giant JPMorgan Chase pledged $2 million to unspecified charitable organizations on January 10 to help with wildfire recovery in Southern California. CEO Jamie Dimon wrote in a letter to employees: "The scale and intensity of these fires are unlike anything we have seen before, and I want to reassure you that you are not alone — —We are here to support you.”

Many major studios, which are headquartered or have significant operations in the South, have mobilized millions of dollars in donations. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery pledged $15 million to relief efforts, Amazon, YouTube, Comcast and Netflix each pledged $10 million, with Sony providing an additional $5 million. Paramount Universal and Fox allocated $1 million to the recovery effort.

The Palisades Fire has burned more than 23,700 acres, while the Eaton Fire in Altadena destroyed more than 14,000 acres and destroyed more than 12,300 structures, according to Cal Fire. AccuWeather estimates that 20 people have died and the economic damage ranges from $250 billion to $275 billion.
