Citroen name Xavier Chardon is the new CEO

Xavier Chardon has been appointed as the new CEO of Citroen (CEO) owned by Stellantis, effective June 2, 2025.

His appointment comes at a time when Citroen is focused on strengthening its position in the European market.

He will report directly to Stellantis' chief operating officer Jean-Philippe Imparato.

As Citroen’s career spans nearly two decades, Chatton will be responsible for continuing the brand’s recent momentum and turning to a transformation amid rapid changes in the automotive industry.

Chardon's background includes a variety of leadership roles in Citroen, including General Manager, Marketing Director and Managing Director of France.

Chardon also brings experience outside the brand, having served as managing director of Volkswagen for about three years and currently serving as CEO of the Volkswagen Group in France.

Imparato said: “I want to thank Thierry Koskas for leading the Citroen brand in the past two years and for renewal of the lineup, most recently the new C5 Aircross.

“We are delighted to welcome Xavier Chardon to the head of Citroen. His affluent career, his expertise in the automotive field and his knowledge of brand will be an invaluable asset to lead Citroen to a new horizon and enhance its unique position in the market.”

Last month, French car brand opened a new facility in Serbia's Kragujevac to produce new C3 models, highlighting its commitment to growth and modernization.

The modernization of the Kragujevac factory takes place between 2022 and 2024 and is part of Citroen’s strategic plan to expand its European footprint.

The initiative is backed by an agreement with the Ministry of Economy of Serbia, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to innovation and development in the region.
