Cillian Murphy can receive third film funding in the sequel to "28 Years Later"

Cillian Murphy returns to the franchise “28 days later”, although his return must wait. Director Danny Boyle said in a new interview with Business Insider and IGN that Murphy appeared in 2002’s “28 Days After” and did not appear in the upcoming “28 Years After.” But he will play a role in the ending of his 2026 sequel, The Bone Temple.

"He's in the second," Boyle told IGN. "I shouldn't give too much. I'll be killed."

Boyle and writer Alex Garland conceived "28 Years Later" as the beginning of the new trilogy. The franchise’s revival star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, directed by Nia Dacosta, back-to-back shots. The trilogy recorder is still in development and could be green if it becomes a box office hit “28 years later”. Boyle hopes to combine Murphy, who will win the Oscar best actor to win "Oppenheimer" and can also help get financing for the third film.

Boyle told Business Insider: "I can only say you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he can help us get funded for the third movie." To seduce said: "Although every story (in the trilogy) has done itself, the next movie also has an exchange part. So it's very ambitious. We haven't made money for the third one yet. I think it will depend on the first book. But, I think if we do well, if we do well, they will give us the money and everyone can give us it."

Boyle also shared with business insiders that having Murphy landed on the trilogy helped him get approval for iPhone "28 Years After" shoot "28 Years After": "You assure them that they are a deflection on any technical issues. They will soon forget. We forget. We nak nakse nak off there nak ye strive to get our way.

Boyle's original "28 Days After" was one of Murphy's first blockbuster characters. He leads the thriller Jim, a man who wakes up in the hospital and finds Britain collapsed in the Immortal Apocalypse. Fans speculated that Murphy could return to the franchise, and some even believed that the actor played the zombies in the first trailer for 28 Years Later. (It's actually the art dealer and agent newcomer Angus Neill.)

"28 Years Later" released the theater from Sony Pictures on June 20. The sequel "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" is scheduled for January 16, 2026.
