Christina Capatides is senior vice president of social media and a hit on CBS News and radio.
In this role, she is responsible for the network’s social discovery, social production and social television. Her work in popular content involves discovering, allocating and producing hundreds of articles and videos monthly on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, CBS News 24/7 and CBSNews.com. She also oversees CBS News social media strategies, “CBS Evening News,” “CBS Mornings,” “Facing the Country,” “CBS Sunday Aunday Mother,” “48 Hours,” “CBS Saturday Morning,” and the elevated accounts on social media platforms; redefined as young and more diverse audience broadcasting news.
She also oversees the social strategies of CBS News’ 14 owned and operated sites: Baltimore, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Colorado, Colorado, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Minnesota, Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, Sacramento and Texas.
CBS News has nearly tripled its followers on Facebook, X, Instagram and Tiktok, adding 27 million followers. On Tiktok, CBS News and its numerous exhibition brands have accumulated 10 million followers, and under 70% of the network's followers are under 44 years old.
Capatides has launched two major socially-first video franchises of CBS News, “The Uplift” and “Down to Earth”, to develop them into successful award-winning brands. CBS News’ good news brand “The Uplift” (The Uplift), which generates billions of views on social platforms, is now a weekly streaming show that makes viewers’ heart-warming human stories exciting. "The Uplift" has won several awards for digital news, including the shortened award for Best Use of Facebook, the Online TV Award: Viral Award and the Cynopsis Viral Video of the Year Award. "Down to Earth" showcases cutting-edge longer reports from foreign journalists at CBS News in the form of a socially-first documentary and won the 2020 Webby Award for Best Social Video, News & Politics Award.
In 2022, Capatides once again won the Weber Award for Best Social Video, News and Politics. This time, for the YouTube documentary, “Black Lives Around the World: The Global Impact of George Floyd.”
Recently, the CBS News Planet Instagram page is a social hub for CBS News and radio climate content – winning the National Anthem Award for Sustainability, Environment and Climate.
Prior to her current role, Capatides served as senior producer for CBS Report Documentary and CBS News Streaming Special. Her documentary Gender: Space Between Wins the 2018 Social Issues TV Award and was nominated for the GLAAD Outstanding Television News Award - Newsmagazine.
Capatides joined CBS News in 2015. Previously, she worked for "World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Good Morning America" and produced and edited the Daily News Packages for the White House, Congress and the Justice Department in ABC News'Washington, DC Bureau.
Capatides holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts degree from New York University.
