Christian Barmore of Patriots will return from blood clots

New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore took a huge blow when he was diagnosed with a blood clot last year.

His 2024 season was shortened, but the 2021 second-round draft pick received good news on Thursday.

Barmore was cleared for football, paving the way for a return to the grill later this year.

Barmore will participate in a Voluntary Organized Team Event (OTA) next week.

"Yes. That's the goal. I just have to keep following the medical team, but everything looks good," Bamur said.

Barmore was initially diagnosed with a clot in July, but he was able to return to the scene in November. However, he had to play four games before hitting the Afro-Ail disease roster.

"It's one of the toughest times. I feel like I've done all the strength and want to come back," Barmore said via ESPN. "I don't want to have this situation again, or anyone in the world can get through.

He ended his third season with the Patriots in 2023, collecting career-high 8.5 sacks and 64 tackles in 17 games.

It was the four-year extension that led to the Patriots signing him, worth $92 million, including $41.8 million in signing guarantee The final year of his rookie deal.

The team has dealt with a player's past blood clots. David Andrews, a long-time veteran of the organization, was diagnosed with a clot in his lungs. Andrews eventually returned to the game in 2020.
