Chocolate covered macadamia nuts recalled for potential undeclared allergens

Sweet snacks were recalled for potential almonds and cashews.

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. voluntarily recalled its dark chocolate-covered macadamia on Saturday, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Recalled Mauna Loa dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts are packaged in 0.6-ounce and 4-ounce bags.

In its product recall announcement, the FDA stated that they were distributed to stores in 16 states plus Guam.

The affected states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington and Wisconsin.

"Consumers who are allergic to almonds and cashews or are seriously sensitive to almonds and cashews, if consumed, can be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions," the FDA said.

Apple juice is recalled in 28 states due to the toxic substances, the FDA said.

Recalled 0.6 oz bags have barcodes 0 72992 05464 4, lot numbers for K5069C1 and K5069C2, and best dates for October 2026.

The barcodes for the recalled 4 oz bag are 0 72992 05556 6, lot numbers for B4339E1 and B4340E1 and best dates for July 2026.

"The recall was determined during the internal quality control process of Mauna Loa, and affected batches made by third-party co-manufacturers contain undeclared almonds and cashews," the FDA said.

“Take action immediately to include affected products, notify third-party co-manufacturers, alert consumers and distributors, and report the issue to the FDA.”

No recall-related diseases or adverse reactions.

This is the second product recall for Mauna Loa this year.

A similar recall was issued in February after "undeclared almonds" were found in a batch of macadamia sacks.

Those who purchase 0.6-ounce or 4-ounce Mauna Loa's dark chocolate covered macadamia are encouraged to return it to the purchase location for a full refund.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused to this and remain committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in our products," the Hawaii-based company said in a statement posted on the FDA's website.
