Champions League Qualification: Chelsea keeps hope, villa needs to slip

Chelsea qualifies for the Champions League itself, with Aston Villa winning the top five in the Premier League on Friday.

The Blues looked like they were going to fall to sixth place before Marc Cucurella's 71st minute header defeated Manchester United 1-0.

Aston Villa defeated Totterham 2-0, aston Villa who could have had the control of fate.

Unai Emery's team ranked fifth most but Manchester City, ranked sixth, played 1 point below their match against Bournemouth in Tuesday's (20:00 BST).

Chelsea knows a final day victory at Nottingham Forest will block the Champions League position, but the seventh-place forest is still hunting.

"Step by step, we're creating something special, and now there are only two games left to get something special.

"The most important thing is that it's up to us, so we have to play the game on Sunday (May 25) and then we're thinking about the (conference league) final (opposing the real Betis)."

Aston Villa may have to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford and hopes that rivals will drop their score.

"We can get the Champions League, which is great," Villa Boss Emery said.

"We want to continue in the season we are doing. We are in a great moment now."

England will have six teams in the Champions League next season - the top five in the Premier League, the winner of the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The fifth prize in the league is the outstanding performance of the British team in Europe this season - Spain also won the game.

Arsenal held a match in Sunday's (16:30 BST) which could be a long way to decide on another or two places.

The Gunners will win, and the draw will actually make it safe because of their excellent goal differences.

Newcastle will win second place and bring them close to the lockdown of the Champions League.

If Arsenal loses this game, they can still finish outside the Champions League position despite seemingly having been sewn for months.

However, they did play the rock bottom of Southampton on the last day.

FA Cup finalist Manchester City must at least return to the top five against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

While six teams wrestled at the remaining win points, Liverpool has long been Champions League football and has won the Premier League.

The forest's chance is now slim and they visited West Ham this Sunday (14:15), knowing that failure will end their hopes. They rank in the top five four points.

The awards for a spot in the Champions League have added spices to the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbaburg.

Both endured the unfortunate Premier League season in the game, at 16th and 17th respectively, but the European elite had high margins.
