Pro-EU candidates and right-wing nationalists from the ruling party will hold a decisive second round of showdowns on June 1.
Rafal Trzaskowski from the Polish Ruling Centre Citizens (KO) led the lead in the first round of the country's presidential elections. Karol Nawrocki, a candidate supported by the Nationalist Law and Justice (PIS) party.
It fought a close fight to determine whether the country was following the pro-European path or being close to admirers of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Warsaw Liberal Mayor Trzaskowski ranked first on Sunday with 30.8%, better than conservative historian Nawrocki, who had 29.1% of the vote, according to an IPSOS Exit poll. If confirmed, the results will mean that both will be directly opposite the runoff vote on June 1.
"We want to win," Trzaskowski told supporters. "We have a lot of work in front of us and we need determination." ”
Navoloki also told supporters that he was confident in the second round victory.
Among the key members of the European Union, which borders war-torn Ukraine and key members of the European Union, the movement revolves heavily around foreign policy and fears that the U.S. commitment to European security could shake in the Trump era.
In commenting on X, Prime Minister Donald Tusk forged a pro-European track, saying the next two weeks will determine the future of Poland.
In Poland, the president has the right to veto the law. Trzaskowski's victory in the second round will allow Tusk's administration to implement an agenda that includes the revocation of judicial reforms caused by PIS, which critics say undermine the independence of the court.
However, if Navoloki wins, the deadlock that has existed since Tusk became Prime Minister in 2023 will continue. So far, PIS President Andrzej Duda has hindered Tusk's efforts.
If the exit poll is confirmed, other candidates in the first round - including Slawomir Mentzen of the far-right Federal Party, Szymon Lownia, center Poland's 2050 parliamentary spokesman and Magdalena Biejat to the left - will be eliminated.
Two latest polls considering some official results will be released later Sunday and early Monday morning
Compared to PI, Trzaskowski has committed to a role in cement among key players in the core of Europe, and PIS is often contradicting Brussels' concerns with the rule of law.
Social issues are also the main theme of the campaign, and Nawrocki has formed himself as the guardian of conservative values and the support of Trzaskowski's free voters in support of his commitment to support abortion and LGBTQ rights.
