Centre Nicuşor Dan certainly wants to win the Romanian election with 99% of the vote | Romania

According to official figures, Bucharest's centrist mayor Nicuşor Dan will win the key presidential election in Romania with 99% of the vote, indicating that his far-right rival George Simion has won eight points for pro-EU independence.

Numbers from Romanian central election authorities show that Dan voted a second round as a battle between "pro-Western and anti-Western Romania" which accounted for 54.2%, while Simion, a self-proclaimed admirer, made up 45.8%.

The two-term mayor of the capital, who fought against corrupt real estate developers, said voters who "seek "a profound change, operating state institutions, less corrupt, a prosperous economy and a dialogue society, not hatred, win" won the victory."

Simion raised objections to the results. "We are the obvious winners of these elections. We claim victory in the name of the Romanian people," he said. He promised that the parallel votes of his supporters would "make sure any potential fraud is identified."

It is unclear what steps populist candidates can take to fight the results. Political scientist Sergiu Mișcoiu predicted the protests, but said there were a few percentage points between the results, "it was hard to believe that he could challenge them."

Simion supporters received news on Sunday night telling them to protest “if the fraud continues” and called for Monday’s call for “if they try to steal the victory of the Romanian people”.

Analysts describe the election as the most important election in the country's post-communist history, having a significant impact on the country's strategic orientation and economic prospects, as well as the solidarity of the EU.

Simion won the first round of the match on May 4, triggering the collapse of the Romanian government's left-wing Social Democrats (PSD) and center-right liberals (PNL). The new president will nominate the next prime minister and influence the formation of the new coalition.

The former footballer Ultra and Ultranationist instigator sees his far-right party as a "natural allies" of the American magazine movement, and his total number of competitors has almost doubled, but polls in recent days have shown the gap between the two.

Official data show that the total number of the first round was 53%, almost 65%, with the turnout for young people and Romanians, especially those living abroad, was significantly higher. Analysts have said high turnout will benefit Dan.

The vote was a replay of the vote last November, won by the far-right Moscow-friendly Fireman Călin Georgescu, who was banned from standing again amid allegations of campaign financial violations and Russian hospitals.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry said earlier on Sunday that it had seen “viral activity of fake news on telegrams and other social media platforms,” adding that it was “a sign of Russian intervention.”

Simion has promised to nominate Georgescu, a formal investigation that includes misunderstandings on campaign spending, illegal use of digital technology and promoting counts of fascist groups, and if he serves as prime minister, he is prime minister.

He promised that he would deliver on Sunday, adding: "It was not my victory, but the victory of the Romanian people, humiliation, robbery and lying many times. It was the victory of a man who should be president: Călin Georgescu."

The Romanian president has considerable power in foreign policy, national security, defense spending and judicial appointments, and can also dissolve the parliament if MPs refuse two prime minister nominations.

Dan, 55, - Romania plays an important logistical role - and put the country firmly firmly within the mainstream of Europe.

He has been supported by the coalition to save Romania (USR), a pro-EU anti-corruption party he co-founded and recognized by PNL. It is believed that he might nominate USR Prime Minister and try to form a minority government that may be supported by the PNL.

He spoke in Central Bucharest on Sunday, and he will negotiate a new government starting on Monday, but admits his work is difficult. “There will be a tough time when the economy needs to rebalance,” he said. “Please have hope and patience.”

Simion opposes further aid to Ukraine and has severely criticized EU leadership. When he insisted that he wanted Romania to stay in the EU and NATO, he could have formed an alliance with Viktor Orbán of Hungary and Robert Fico of Slovakia to become another destructive force.

Mujtaba Rahman of Eurasia Group Consulting said the results were “a very strong result for pro-European candidates”, reflecting that “the focus on the political and policy directions mobilized in a Magka-like manner has mobilized voters.”

Pavel Durov, founder of the Telegram Messaging App, appeared earlier to accuse the French government of demanding that the company "silence the voice of conservatives in the election." France "absolutely rejects" the so-called "completely unfounded allegations."

Russian-born Durov, who is currently a French national, is investigating in France, the app has the image of child abuse, drug trafficking and fraudulent transactions.
