Celtics' 0-2 holes with the Knicks in NBA playoffs without any precedent

The Boston Celtics set various records in the Eastern Conference semifinals. They are not good.

The Celtics succumbed to the New York Knicks two days later, they succumbed to the New York Knicks, and they lost humiliatingly to the New York Knicks with a 20-point lead. It was an echo until Jayson Tatum's last gasp drive finally came to a steal from Mikal Bridges, and it was the way the first game ended.

So now the Celtics have lowered 0-2 in a series, with them taking a 40-point overall lead in two games. It can be said that they were lucky last year that they were still there, preventing experts from actually working.

How serious are the Celtics for this series? The Cleveland Cavaliers may feel sympathy for them.

For the starters, they were the first team in the NBA game-by-game era, losing two games after scoring at least 20 points in a playoff. Note how this statistic doesn't have a "back-to-back" qualifier.

NBA teams didn’t have two playoff leads like the Celtics, they did it in a row.

Of course, pain loves company. For months, the Celtic-Caval Eastern Conference Finals were seen as something similar to the final. They are the two most obvious teams in the East.

Now, they both play against smaller teams, and the Cavaliers are currently behind the Indiana Pacers, both of them defeated 0-2. The NBA has never seen a team like this in the second round, they are together.

Not even like the Celtics have a batting trend this season. On their way to the 61-21 season, they lost a total of one game in the regular season.

Bridges in particular should be specially recognized. Not only did he beat the Celtics with steals, he also scored 14 of his 30 points after entering the framework with zero points in the fourth quarter of Wednesday.

This represents a quarter of the playoff career quarter.

But, from a broad perspective, the pain of the Celtics is consistent with the broader theme of this playoffs.

Boston's loss is the fifth comeback victory of at least 20 points in the 2025 NBA playoffs, and it's already a record, even though we're not even halfway into the second round.

These losses are:

Incredibly, four of these five games featured either the Pacers (in a good way) or the Celtics (in a bad way).

In fact, if Aaron Gordon had Aaron Gordon in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Clippers, Aaron Gordon might have six of those two.

Although starting with at least some overwhelming favorites and at least reaching the conference semifinals, this year's playoffs have brought about a historic comeback with a one-on-the-7s. You just want to know what else it has in storage.
