As wildfires continue to sweep across the state, celebrities are stepping up to help the Southern California region they made famous.
As of Tuesday afternoon, fires in the Los Angeles area have killed at least 25 people, displaced thousands and destroyed more than 12,000 buildings. Two of the largest fires, the Palisade Fire and the Eaton Fire, have scorched a combined nearly 40,000 acres (16,187 hectares) but remain only partially contained.
Since the fire broke out early last week, stars including Beyoncé, Eva Longoria, Jamie Lee Curtis, Halle Berry, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come together to support those affected by the fire. Support for frontline workers and families. Celebrities, athletes and corporate executives donated generously and volunteered at rescue centers.
In California, the different ways to help fire victims don't matter. In Los Angeles, hundreds of GoFundMe campaigns are raising money to help families who have lost their homes get back on their feet.
Beyoncé has donated $2.5 million to the new Los Angeles Fire Rescue Fund, established by her charitable foundation, BeyGood.
“This fund is earmarked to assist families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who have lost their homes, as well as churches and community centers to meet the immediate needs of those impacted by wildfires,” a post on Instagram read.
Last week, Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, posted on the social media platform that her Malibu bungalow had been destroyed in a fire.
"That was my favorite place, my sanctuary, my sacred place of joy. No more!!" she wrote. “God bless all the brave men and women in our fire department who risk their lives in dangerous conditions.”
Longoria announced a $50,000 donation to This Is About Humanity to support frontline workers and impacted families. "It's been a crazy week," she said in an Instagram video, calling the fires "devastating for so many people" who lost precious memories and hard-earned possessions.
She said her family had evacuated their home after warnings and multiple sirens but were now hosting displaced friends from other areas.
On Friday, Meghan and Harry appeared at an evacuation center and food bank in Pasadena, where they served food and spoke with locals and emergency workers on site. That same day, Jennifer Garner volunteered with World Central Kitchen and chef José Andrés to serve firefighters and firefighters at the Jack in the Box restaurant in Altadena. Food was provided to evacuees.
Last week, actor Jamie Lee Curtis, whose California community was among those devastated by the fires, said her family would donate $1 million to relief efforts. She appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," holding back tears as she described the loss in Pacific Palisades.
"Where I live is on fire right now, and literally the whole city of Pacific Palisades is on fire," she said. "This is literally where I live - everything, the markets where I shop, the schools my kids go to. Friends, many, many, many friends are losing their homes right now."
Companies have also offered help over the past week. On Monday, Netflix and Comcast NBCUniversal each pledged $10 million to support organizations helping victims of wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced that the company's donation will be divided among five recipients, including World Central Kitchen and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation Department Foundation).
Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian L Roberts allocated $2.5 million of Comcast's commitment to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles' Rebuilding Los Angeles program. The remaining funds will be donated to other charitable foundations to help victims.
