Casualties of Israel’s Gaza War – The Numbers | Israel-Palestine Conflict News

It has been 467 days since Israel launched a war against the Palestinians in Gaza. That's more than 15 months of daily bombing, death, injury, displacement and hunger.

Israel began its onslaught on October 7, 2023, following attacks by the Palestinian group Hamas on southern Israel.

The attack resulted in more than 1,100 deaths and approximately 240 prisoners. Many of the prisoners were either released in a prisoner exchange in November 2023 or killed in subsequent Israeli attacks.

After the attack, Israel began brutal airstrikes and further tightened its blockade of the enclave that had been in place since 2007.

46,707 Palestinians killed

At least 46,707 people have been killed in Gaza in the past 15 months, including about 18,000 children. The death toll means one out of every 50 people in Gaza has been killed. Many analysts and human rights groups believe the actual death toll is much higher.

Despite global condemnation and pleas from international and human rights groups, Israel continues its campaign of collective punishment in the besieged enclave, where half the population is under the age of 18. In doing so, Israel wiped out the lives of multiple generations of families in the region. Civil Registry.

More than 100,000 people injured

At least 110,265 people have been injured in Gaza as a result of the war. That's one in 20 people.

According to the World Health Organization, nearly a quarter of those injured - an estimated 22,500 people - suffered life-changing injuries that required but had not yet received rehabilitation. Severe limb injuries are the main type of injuries requiring rehabilitation.

According to UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, 10 children a day undergo surgeries and amputations with little or no anesthesia and lose one or both legs due to the Israeli blockade.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that as of the end of 2024, at least 4,500 people had had their limbs amputated.

In addition to the confirmed casualties, thousands more people are feared to be buried under the rubble. With few tools to clear the rubble and rescue people trapped under the concrete, volunteers and Palestinian civil defense personnel were left to rescue with their bare hands. It is impossible to know how many people died under the rubble.

According to the Palestinian Authority for Environmental Quality, an estimated 85,000 tons of explosives were dropped on Gaza. Experts predict it could take more than a decade to clear the debris left behind by the explosion, which totals more than 42 million tons, according to the United Nations Development Programme. In addition to the work of clearing the rubble, there is also the risk of handling unexploded bombs.
