Casandra VenturaR&B singer and model accused Diddy of physical and sexual abuse and faces cross-examination today Anna Estevaoone of the rapper's lawyers. Estevao set out to portray Ventura as a willing participant in Diddy's "Freak Offs", challenging the singer's insistence that she was forced to be drug-driven voyeuristic sex.
When cross-examination begins, Ventura is irritable and cautious. But as the day progressed, she seemed to answer questions with confidence, calm and politeness. She was occasionally confused by certain inquiries. Estevao initially seemed hard to find a rhythm, repeatedly starting and stopping, but after lunch she fell into a steady groove.
Didi's three sons and his mother Janice Combssit in the gallery today. The rapper’s mom is in federal court every day in downtown Manhattan to hear extraordinary graphic testimony about the son’s history of alleged violent abuse and sexual orientation.
Judge Arun Subramanian Looks determined to keep experimenting with brisk clip movements. He assured the jurors that they would complete the service by July 4 - he seemed to think that Ventura might be a few days away from giving birth. He sternly reminded the defense, which was a day and a half to ask her, and scolded Didi's chief lawyer after he postponed.
"In what universe, you don't understand it's important," Subramanian asked the lawyer, Marc Agnifilo.
In other news: Prosecutors and defense attorneys seemed to have a friendly rapport at the pre-trial hearing. But it quickly evaporated this week. Tensions in the courtroom increase dramatically whenever the jury does not sit down. For example, this morning, the opposition lawyers were caught in a heated dispute that the defense could introduce to the evidence.
Meanwhile Diddy takes notes on the mat as these arguments unfold.
Ventura's testimony regarding cross-examination will be prosecuted for reading transcripts. It doesn't sound that good to the jury. That's because the transcript doesn't capture the rhythm, changes and emotions of the answer. Ventura's testimony can be done for jurors who are listening to her testimony in reality and watching her body language.
On the one hand, she is answering questions - she is mainly talking about the need for prosecution. But on the other hand, some questions don't have good answers. There really was no perfect response to Ventura when the defense's text message to her indicated that she was a willing participant in the "weird" lifestyle.
The juror may see her as a victim, and he can't get rid of Didi's clutch. They might see her as a forced lifestyle person. However, one or more jurors may also conclude that Ventura has repeatedly choose Being with Diddy and joining "Freaks" sometimes brings him a passionate message. It only takes one juror to get deadlocked.
tomorrow: Ventura will return to witnesses representing Didi's team for more cross-examinations. The judge and prosecutor have made it clear that they want to ask questions at the end of the day.
