The Detroit Tigers put right-hander Casey Mize on the 15-day injury list on May 10, with left hamstring strain - his two-month injury also cost him two months of injury last season.

Manager AJ Hinch said it was a "light stress".

The location on the injury list is a retrospective date back to May 9, making Mize eligible for a return immediately after May 24. The Tigers have not listed the starting pitchers for May 13 against the Boston Red Sox in Comerica Park.

"In the last inning at Colorado, he felt a little sensation and adjusted," Hinch said. "Everyone thought it was dehydrated. It turned out that it was something - very mild."

To fill Mize's roster, the Tigers recalled Triple-A Toledo's right-hander Reliever Chase Lee. In the May 13 game, the Tigers can choose Lee to return to Toledo and call a starter from the mud hen (probably Montero with right-hand touching feet).

"He probably won't start on Tuesday, which puts us in a tough position to last for how long," Hinchi said of Metz. "In May, we will certainly be cautious, but we hope it will be good in a short time."

Montero, 24, is not in the opening roster, but he has already opened four games for the Tigers, having kicked out 4.15 ERA with 10 walks and 15 strikeouts in 21 innings.

However, for the time being, Montero remains at Triple-A Toledo.

The loss caused the Tigers to lose one of their first four starting pitchers. The 28-year-old has 2.53 ERAs in seven games, has nine walks in 42 innings and strikeouts out in 35 innings.

It is not clear whether Mize (first pick in 2018) needs a rehabilitation task, part of his recovery from left hamstring strain, although he underwent four rehabilitations last season after suffering from left hamstring strain.

Good news: Hinch said there is no connection between last year's injuries and this year's injuries.

"It's a big hamstring," Hinchi said.
