Roma - Only one player has been beating Jannik Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz once again beat the top player to beat Sinner 7-6 (5), 6-1, winning his first Italian Open on Sunday and adding another Big Clay title to his resume.

Alcaraz has been the only player to beat the Sinners more than once since the beginning of last year and now he has finished the game four times in a row.

"Just being proud of myself, I approached the way the game mentally. Tactically, I did a great job from point one to last," Alkaraz said. "I kept my level throughout the game."

Alcaraz won the Italian 26-game winning streak before home fans of Foro Italico in Sinner, which dates back to October when Alcaraz beat the Chinese Open final in the third set final. Alcaraz now leads the professional series 7-4.

This is Sina's first game after a three-month doping ban.

"I'm really happy to see Jannik back to this amazing level," Alkaraz said. "I'm sure it's not easy for him to come back from three months. It's crazy to get the final here."

Alcaraz also cemented his favorite to defend his title at the French Open which will begin next Sunday.

Sinner has been in his first match since he won his third Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January.

In February, Sina agreed to a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency, which raised questions as the three-month suspension allowed him not to miss any Grand Slams and then back to his home game.

Sinner said he and his team had been through “three months that weren’t easy, so it was really big to achieve this here” and “we should be very proud”.

He added: “Even if I wanted another person, we brought home a very special trophy.”

Since Adriano Panatta in 1976, Sinner has tried to be the first family man to win the Italian Open. He also tried to finish the singles title in Italy after Jasmine Paolini won the Women's Trophy on Saturday.

Paolini and partner Sara Errani also defended their women’s doubles title earlier Sunday, making Paolini the first woman since Monica Seles in 1990, and wielded Rome’s singles and doubles titles the same year.

Of the 10,500 fans in Campo Centrale, many were decorated in orange (themed color of Sinner), who recited Sina's name before the game began.

However, Sina wasted two fixed points by leading Alcaraz in the first set, then Alcaraz advanced in the tiebreak with two Aaces and stuck on and then cruised in the second set.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz will be second in the rankings on Monday after the third final of three clay games this season. He won the Monte Carlo Masters and finished second in the Barcelona Open before quitting the Madrid Open due to injury.

After winning the Madrid Open in 2022 and 2023, Alcaraz became fifth in the fifth in all three Masters 1000 Masters after Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Gustavo Kuerten and Marcelo Rios.
