Cardinal Robert Prevost served as Leo Xiv on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica shortly after he was elected Pope. The following is a transcript of the speech, translated from its original Italian.
Peace is with everyone!
Dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Resurrection Christ, a good shepherd who gave his life to God’s flock.
I also hope that this peaceful greeting comes into your heart, with your family and everyone, no matter where they are, all the people, all over the world.
Peace is with you!
This is the peace of the resurrected Christ, an armed peace of unarmed peace with humility and perseverance. It comes from God, who loves our God unconditionally. There is still that weak in our ears, but always brave Francis blesses the voice of Rome!
Blessed the Pope of Rome to the world, the whole world, and blessed his blessings on Easter morning. Please allow me to follow up with the same blessing: God loves us, God loves all of you, evil will not prevail!
We are all in the hands of God.
So without fear we join God and with each other, we move forward. We are disciples of Christ.
Christ preceded us. The world needs his light. Humanity needs him because the bridge can be touched by God and His love.
Also help us, and help each other through dialogue and meetings to build bridges that make us all one, always peaceful. Thank you, Pope Francis! I also want to thank all the brothers Cardinals who chose me to be Peter's successor and walk with you, as a united church, always seeking peace, justice, always seeking peace, justice, always seeking work as a man and a woman
Be loyal to Jesus Christ, not afraid, and declare the gospel as a missionary.
I am the son of St. Augustine, the Augustinian, and he said, "You and I are Christians, and I am a bishop." In this sense, we can all walk together to that home that God has prepared for us.
Go to the Roman Church, a special greeting! Together we must find out how to be a missionary church, build bridges, the church of dialogue is always open, with open arms, all those who need our charity, our presence, dialogue and love.
If you allow me a word to greet everyone, especially to the Peruvian diocese of my beloved Chiclayo, a faithful person accompanied their bishops, shared their faith and gave so much faith that he continued to be a church faithful to Jesus Christ.
For all of you, Italy, Italy, the siblings of the world, we all want to be a conference church, a church walking, a church that always seeks peace, always seeks peace, always seeks charity, always seeks intimacy, especially for those suffering.
Today is the day to pray to Mrs. Pompeii. Our mother, Mary, always wants to walk with us, be intimate, help us with intercession and her love. So, I want to pray with you. Let us pray for the new mission of world peace throughout the church, and let us also ask our mother Mary about this special grace.
Hail Mary...
