Canadians react to NHL announcements against Martin St. Louis coach

This season, the Montreal Canadiens won a playoff spot for the first time since 2021, with a record of 40-31-11 and 91 points.

On the last day of the regular season, the team occupied the final universal card on the East's last universal card.

Since its inception in 1973-74, St. Louis is just the sixth Canadian coach to win the award and the first since Guy Carbonneau in 2008.

Only Scotty Bowman and Pat Burns won with Montreal. St. Louis also became the first former Hart Trophy winner to be nominated for Jack Adams.

St. Louis initially did not have previous hiring without coaching experience, and in the mid-2021-22 season, St. Louis took over from Dominique Ducharme and officially became head coach at the time.

St. Louis won his 100th career victory against the San Jose Sharks on February 4.

The other two Jack Adams finalists were Scott Arniel of the Winnipeg Jets and Spencer Carbery of the Washington capital.

Arniel won the first presidential trophy for Winnipeg with a record of 56-22-4, the best in the league.

Carbery led Washington (51-22-9) to second place in the rankings and eventually eliminated Montreal from the playoffs, beating the Canadiens 4-1 in the first round.
