Can the Nets find a trading partner in the 76ers?

The Brooklyn Nets didn't get the results they hoped to get in Monday's 2025 NBA Draft Lottery as they finished the eighth overall pick in the draft. Although Brooklyn returned to two positions from their sixth pick in the game, they were reportedly one of the teams expected to try to trade in the draft and could have a natural trading partner.

After the lottery ended, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Tuesday that Stein Line said the Nets were seen as one of the teams that could try to trade with better draft picks in this class. Philadelphia 76ers basketball president Daryl Morey spoke on Monday about his feeling about the team's third pick and how the team will do it.

"That's the plan (using a draft pick instead of trading it). I think to get a highly upside player, we also think it's a big deal to contribute immediately, and we feel 3 is a good place," Moore said during his appearance on the 97.5 "Kincade & Salciunas" show, six and six-person Carlin). The Sixers are one of the teams that saw draft positions in the lottery after the disastrous 2024-25 season.

If the Nets are going to find a way to trade in the draft, they will have to look for teams that may want to maximize the championship, which sounds like Philadelphia wants to do. Whether that means they will trade with Brooklyn is another topic, and it sounds like Morey is on a veteran-led team of Joel Embiid and Paul George, despite one team’s intentions.

The team that wins the lottery, the team that wins the lottery, does not want to trade the first overall draft pick, which may allow them to win the lottery in Duke Forward Cooper Flagg and San Antonio Aspurs, who want to continue to surround Victor Wembanyama and De'aaaaron Fox around Vict of Vict, which may make them more difficult.

Given Flagg's hype, the Mavericks could defy the report and engage in a bidding war to maximize the assets they can get from him. However, the Mavericks and Spurs will seem to stick to their choices, and while the Sixers seem to use their draft picks, they may also be looking for players to add Embiid and George.
